Well today Brian arrived in the Mannum Waters Marina in his houseboat.
About a 3 hour trip down river from the slip where the pontoons were inspected & painted. All in very good condition too!
Several photos of his arrival can be found in the photo album.

You forgot the helicopters, quad copters, planes, trains, wood lathes, wood working gear and other bits plus lithium battery packs for everything including the dingy and electric outboard. Re: Brian (Homeless) & his Houseboat
Back in an earlier life I was offered a House Boat on the Murray, he was selling his house and the boat wouldn't have a mooring .
I didn't take him seriously and jokingly replied OK , then promptly forgot all about it after a bit of banter.
My main question at the time was where to berth it, when do I need to get it surveyed and how much , the what about road transport when doing the Murray Darling ?
I was then offered for a small price a barge that could be towed behind carrying a "Jimmy" or similar small 4wd.
Unfortunately I didn't follow it up and when the friend's friend asked when I wanted to take up his offer I simply pleaded ignorance ( owing to the liberal amounts of alcohol we'd consumed ) he was quite annoyed ( to put it mildly )
Anyway after a bit of questioning and putting it ''out there '' we got a better price than I offered and a better quality of new owner..
.
.
. But still the question is ? would I have enjoyed the life style ??????

Re: Brian (Homeless) & his Houseboat
It seems many are confused exactly what the word 'survey' means.
In SA and probably elsewhere, the only vessels/boats that HAVE to be UNDER survey are those that are used for professional fishing or are for hire/charter.
That particular survey HAS to be done by Gov inspectors and is mostly concerned with safety and reliability issues.
eg. double clamps on all water hoses, fire extinquisers, life jackets, condition of hull, child safety fences, gas & electricity compliance etc etc.
For pleasure vessels .... boats, houseboats NOT for hire, yachts etc ............
No survey at ALL is required. No sea worthiness is required, nothing... zilch!
You can set sail in a bathtub if you like. Hang an outboard off it & you need to register the 'boat'.
Brian & others have loosely called having their houseboat slipped and pontoons checked, as having a survey but in fact it's no more than looking for peace of mind & fixing anything needing fixing.
I won't go into WHERE you can moor your houseboat other than saying that there are SOME places that allow mooring but do NOT allow full time living on the vessel while on that mooring. Prices vary according to place and facilities requested/required.
There are many than simply travel & tie up to anything, anywhere.
