Was considering one of those for our next purchase - in the current cruiser - but quickly changed my mind for exactly that reason. I'll be going for the same model Lesley & Erich have with the remote head... easier to find a place for the small part rather than then entire radio... that will go under the centre console or similar.admin wrote:Does anyone else have troubles with the controls mounted on the microphone on these modern 2 way radios?
Might be OK for the navigator but for the driver I find it hard to pick up & control it without activating 1,2 or more of the buttons. I'm wondering if an old pre-2000 mike might work or maybe snip a few wires with the side cutters?

I think the driver has more to do with it than the vehicle (and of course diff locks turn anything into a real offroad machine)Macca wrote:Hahahahah. The only vehicles that managed to get out of Gunshot Creek up the Cape without having to be winched or snatch strapped out were 2 PATROLS & 1 SAHARA!.
Yep, I have been a Cruiser man for 30 years. My son has a Patrol and I love taking the piss out of him

Rob these 3 had the Mud tyres, diff locks, the works. They struggled but got there.

I had a set of ARB air lockers on a Tojo, unbelievable where it would go. The DVD that came with them gave the advice to proceed in low range until the vehicle stops, engage front diff locks and keep going, if stopped again engage rear diff locks and reverse out!!! Very impressed with them
