HI
That situation of using step down transformers has again been confirmed as NOT COMPLYING TO AUS STANDARDS been confirmed ,this morning, by Qld ESO
That the fitting of A step down transformer to run ALL existing 110V equipment does not comply with Aus Standards
A company making such a claim has been approached & despite their internet link claiming compliance by fitting a transformer THEY DENY HAVING EVER DONE SO
But they need hard evidence to act against those selling & claiming such do comply!
That has to be some one who has been conned ,coming forward with the evidence[Van & paper work with evidence of sale]
Any willing please contact me by PM

As 80% of USA RV electrics is 12V, its not a deal breaker to take the transformer out and get a sparky to rewire and a couple small low cost appliances replaced.

Re: 240V to 110V step down transformers ,imported vans
It is some time since the use of step down transformers (240V to 120V) has been discussed but my understanding is that while you cannot use a step down transformer to run ALL the 120V appliances it is OK to use a step down transformer to operate one appliance, (the air conditioner for example).
However if the transformer is wired in such a way that it can be switched between appliances (but to only one at a time) would this be legal?
Is there any similar restriction on the use of inverters to operate several appliances at the one time?

I know it wouldn't stop me but I doubt it's illegal anyway. It might be illegal to sell the MH or van on to another buyer though.
I can't see any 'inspector' sticking his head in your van to check it?

I had to look twice. I thought I'd logged in to caravanners.
Like when you're in the twenties on a Saturday night..... you go to certain pubs to pick up, some to have fun and some to see a fight.
