As we are in the Pilbara, its a perfect testing environment, I suspect a split system would struggle at times as well. Already we have had 45 deg days..and 40 is not uncommon, we havent got to summer yet!
Yep, we have had 40C for the past 2 months and the split system has been a blessing. The old IBIS would have really struggled and kept us awake at night.

Finally fitted the new Dometic Harrier Invertor.

Cut out my hole on Friday, re inforced the hole and created access for power etc.

Solar panels rails removed to be relocated.
A friend came over on Sunday and we did the final fit out.

Getting on the roof was the easy bit even position the unit around on the roof was ok.

Fired it up around 3pm yesterday with the temp sitting at 35 C, a real bit noisy on start up, had to re check nothing was in the way.

Seemed to quieten down after running for a while.

Cooled the bus down quite quickly, even got into the bedroom quite well.

Maybe not as quite as a split, but not real noisy, we conducted a conversation ok with the fan running on medium fan and didn't have to shout.

Anyway it was my best option, so far very happy

Now some tidying up and digest info on Lithium.

Seems the way to go, looks as I can relocate the batteries to a better position.

Good to see. Ours shut up the more we used it too.
Like most air cons they work really well under 35. Over 40 they all have to work a bit

Neat job Kappy, they look to be a bit more compact than the other rattler models and hopefully do a better job. Still thinking seriously along the lines of fitting one of these units to the spot up front on the Mazda, but it was set up to suit the smaller Dometic rattler so not sure there is enough room. Might be back to the plan of converting the roof top rattler to the roof cassette for an inverter split system.

Thanks T1

When the box was on the ground the external unit looks huge, once fitted seems to have shrunk. haha

The external is 750 x 280 x 1070, the internal is only 500 x 520 x 66. looks quite neat really.

My internal height is 192 cm I'm not a shortass at 178 cm and there is still about 8.5 cm between my noggen and the A/C.

I would have liked a roof cassette type just no where to put the compressor.

Looks like you have lots of room for solar up there is you map out the placement well. This 5er does have a twin head split system but lots of hatches as well so the scatter approach was required. The bit at the rear near the ladder is for the sat dish and the spaces are for walking room when stepping over/around the hatches. There was room up front for another 4 x 100w panels, but it already powers the air con on full noise with some left over for battery charging so there didn't seem to be the need for them.
Be careful looking at this photo as a similar one showing the first progress bits caused a thread to be locked and possibly completely vanished on another forum
