The Murray

Post by shonky »

Hi, all.

We're currently just east of Hay, heading to Mildura, and wondering which are the best spots to camp along the river. Best means well populated and decent happy hours, of course.

I like the free camp at Merbein, just west of Mildura. though can get crowded at this time of the year.
Life is a trip, to be enjoyed!

I imagine most of the 'known' camp spots would be fairly full this time of the year but shonky doesn't seem too concerned about crowds.
I guess his biggest problem would be finding a spot to put the van in walking distance of all those happy hours.
Get in early ;) ...........and have fun.

C'mon Shonky (Bruce) , tell us where you are now & a little more of the sort of camp spot you're looking for?
We're a pretty friendly mob over on the SA side of the border but maybe you only wish to hang around Mildura?
Going to be a VERY hot Christmas up that way this year! (Even in Adelaide too!)

Hi, all.

After a serious bit of driving today - 400km - we'll be in Mildura tomorrow morning. Keep an eye out for The Doghouse and it's new toad, the Terios. Mrs shonky's job to chauffeur me in the Terios from happy hour to happy hour. No probs. All sorted. Even a new Waeco for the Corona coldies. And a lemon.

We stayed at Weethalle a few nights ago. Great stop, great meal at the pub and power if needed.

Hi, all.

Had a look at the Billabong, road closed. Went on to Merbein, but no signage and all one could see were wheel uts in all directions. SWYMO vetoed it, so we next had a look at the Merbein caravan park. Wasted 30 minutes of our lives, and we then took off for the nearest Big 4. Don't tell anyone, BTW. Tomorrow might have a look at the Palms Caravan Park, as it's more central.

So all I hear up north during the winter is "We spend the summer on the Murray". Whereabouts on the Murray???

Hey, the new Waeco fits beautifully into the toad, as well as the toolbox, Genny etc.
