When we were kids, a few year ago, I reckon at some stage in our young lives we received a Christmas present form Santa of Mom and Dad that was the most bestest thing in the whole world.
What was your most bestest Christmas present ?
I think mine was a Toshiba portable 9 transistor radio.
I took it everywhere with me without Mom knowing, she figured I was going to loose it.
It was a tough unit that one, more than once it fell of the middle rail of the side fence while I was hanging over it chatting up talking to little Lisa from next door. She was Jimmys sister, you remember Jimmy don't you ?
Anyway, that was my most bestest, what was yours ?

Re: That most bestest Christmas present
To be honest I have no recollection at all of my childhood Christmas's but I do remember never getting what I always wanted, a white pony and it was never there on Christmas morning
yeah I know I was a naughty little girl
and Lance the name is not Jimmy, it was Little Johnny

Re: That most bestest Christmas present
Mine would have been a transformer for my Triang model train set, then dad didn't flatten the battery while I was asleep
The next bestest present was a model loco that puffed real smoke, mum cursed that present cause it oiled up the windows she had just cleaned.
The one I always wanted but never got, a Meccano set, the original metal building kit that just added on for ever. Still sometimes think of the bridges and other stuff I could have built for my train set if I'd had one of those. Unfortunately dad's limits when it came to mechanical things was a clutch pencil and a refillable fountain pen, totally useless items for a left hander

Re: That most bestest Christmas present
T1, We must live in the same world. It was the same at my house when I was a kid. My nextest bestest ( Ray, are they proper words? ) was an Army set, with cannons that could fire matches and stuff at the opposition. I got the Aussies, older brother the Germans and younger brother the Japanese. Of course the Aussies would always win.
Dot, My son got the pony when he was seven, the daughter got hers when she was ten. Was constantly broke after that because you still have to feed and look after animals even when you are not using them. I reckon your Mum and Dad were a little bit clever.

Re: That most bestest Christmas present
My Very Bestest Ever present was... a refractor telescope.
After that Christmas I was constantly being told by my mother, "Raymond, come inside! It's past your bed-time. The moon and stars will still be there tomorrow night."
Fifty-five years later, for my birthday (which is close enough to Christmas), my son gave me a new Dobson-mount reflector telescope! Optical technology has come a long way in 55 years! The image from the new telescope makes the moon look like it's in our back yard!
I still have that original telescope. It sits side-by-side with my new one in our display case... and I'm still being told (now by SWMBO), "Ray, come inside. It's after midnight, and the moon and stars will still be there tomorrow night."

Re: That most bestest Christmas present
Tomorrow we'll receive a great Christmas present: lunch with our son and his family.
G'daughter is now six, so she's well aware of Christmas!
For SWMBO the second-best part is that she has not had to do any of the cooking, and won't be expected to clean up dishes after...
lunch will be at a club.
