My Asus F555D laptop now has a white oblong box in the middle of the screen after I log on.
It Says...
SYSTEM SETTINGS CHANGE.
Your hardware settings have changed.
Please reboot your computer for these changes to take effect.
It did not state where it came from.
Also, on the opening page where my 'shortcuts' are shown... about 5 of them are no longer there... just goneski.
I'm hesitant to do what it says as my computer knowledge is minimal & not sure how hardware settings could be changed remotely.
Is this message fair dinkum, if so how do I reboot, just turn it off & back on or summat else?
System Settings Change.

Re: System Settings Change.
Yep, just turn it off and on again, bet you using windows, So this would not be that uncommon and your windows system can change your system at will. If it's WIn 10, you have little control over your computer, microsoft has the control now. They use secure boot and other bios measures to take control and if you don't have much knowledge of how it all operates, sadly you are stuck with what they do.

Re: System Settings Change.
Can't help any more Chuck, ditched windows many years ago and the only experience I have with win10 is when I got a new laptop and checked it out to see what it was like. After a frustrating hour trying to stop the huge downloads it was wanting to put in and no software other than crap, turned off secure boot and installed linux mint. Which comes with all the pre installed software you need and gives you access to many thousands of more free software, which is light years ahead of anything win can offer. Unless you want to drain your bank account paying for proprietary junk.
Hopefully, there are some win users here who can help you. From what I've read on whirlpool and other computer forums, win10 is a basket full of problems that never seem to end. You could put that down to them still using code from the last century and just layering over the top of it when they add things, rather than building a new platform with a new kernel. I've read thats why the update downloads are so huge, they have to cover all bases with the old code, so they can keep control. Either that or you've picked up a controlling virus, which can't occur on linux, maybe a virus scan will work. If not them windows has changed your hardware setting and that could become a big problem.
I use asus laptops and they work wonderfully well with linux, smooth and fault free.
Hope you get it fixed without forking out money, have you tried putting your problems on a win10 forum and asking for help there, that will probably give you a better outcomes than taking it to a win technician and paying for a problem windows have created themselves.

Re: System Settings Change.
Chuck I'd be tempted to do a "restore" back a day or so .......... assuming you've got that turned on!
Click the start icon / type "restore" / click on "create a restore point" / click on "system restore" which is about 1/4 of the way down that first page. / click "next" / click "show more restore points" down the bottom / select one you want ?? / follow the procedure as .........

Re: System Settings Change.
Tried all to no avail, then I remembered I had a 'Tech2Home service still unused from when I purchased the laptop in March last year, so made a phone call & the Tech, Shane, had me click on a cupla keys then he was into my pooter remotely.
About 15 mins later all good, didn't say what the problem was but it was not gremlins from another world, so all is good.
Appreciate both of your attempts to assist.
