Gas Refills

Drop in and dribble on about nothing serious. Seriously a mad place to hang out. Better to avoid it if you're not in the mood!!! If you're determined to be sad, bad, mad & angry then move along!!!

Yes, they do say they only have 1500 so far, but have to start somewhere, you are welcome to add additional places.
As I said, probably limited use for us but will keep tabs on just in case, got to be away long enough to use 4 little ones and 2 big ones, just using in the barby, that's a loooong trip

They do say, look at the date to see when added as may have been some time ago.
Good on 'em, they have put some of their own money up to help others.

You stand the big one upside down, connect the little one and away you go, can only go until the pressure equalises so usually empty to about 1/3 rd I think
 You would want to be doing a lot of refills to cover that price and a lot gets wasted as it is only decanting not pumped from one bottle to the other.

Well the big bottles are purchased by the farm so no cost there, I don't think much gets wasted, it is only a bit of gas that comes out until you get to the liquid part, but works for us so far.
May be able to buy the hose and connections cheaper, haven't tried anywhere but echo bay

To fill the bottles without waste you need a liquid transfer pump and fill the bottle by weight. Alibaba has them Liquefied-gas-pump-For-Propane-Transfer but with a few bits from around the wreckers and spares yard one could be built using an electric motor belt driven car air con compressor and the appropriate fittings silver soldered on the inlet and outlet. Naturally you need a licence to refill gas bottles but the course is a short one and very easy to pass.

Dunno about all that, just saying what has worked for us, bottles end up pretty much the same weight as a store filled one so I don't think much difference

mucking about with gas bottles and exchanging gas is highly dangerous and should only be left to the experts.

But (ahem) I happen to know a bloke who met a fella who knows a mate whos brother in law swears that- (ahem)
if you join up 2 bottles with fittings and hose from a large green shed
and elevate the fuller bottle above the emptier one then invert it
and open both the valves
then slowly pour hot water over the elevated one
liquid gas shall move from the top one to the bottom one leaving just enough in the top one for a quick weber bbq and nothing more.
Certain kettle water might have to be applied a couple of times but a little rattle and shake will feel the emptyness.

but you didn't hear it on this forum OK ;)

I'm at a loss to understand why you would bother decanting LPG.
If it's cost, is it worth any risk involved ?
If it's convenience, is it worth any risk involved ?

Well for us we have a business that buys 40 kg bottles so there is no COST as such to us. Disappears into the biz costs, small bickies in the scheme of things.
If you had done this I think you would know just how little risk is involved, as usual, if you do it right.
And I am up to here with this nanny state they want us to live in so if I can give 'em the finger I will.

But of course I have never done this ! (thanks Baggie)

And for us Lance its a business thing, a bagmaker like me makes bags of popcorn at markets and music gigs and such. The corn gets cooked in a huge pot, the huge pot has a burner that would fit well into the back of a fighter plane. Takes gas.
Now keep all that secret info quiet and the next OZRV sanctioned meet will have free popcorn!!

Always wondered where the "bagmaker" came from Wayne, not nearly as interesting as some of the ideas I had.........
