internet provider ? which one

Post by Dot »

We have swapped phone people, leaving Telstra & going to Southern ph. Sthn Ph don't have a service provider so we get to choose who we go with for the email.. What do you lot recommend? ??? gmail, and so on..

"tanks" here -- Dot, are you connecting the home computer or the on-the-road computer.
iinet have a good name but check the coverage. You should be able to have a service for around $40 per month but look at the g/bites thing for download limits. Let's hear from members who have more experience in this field.
Keith.
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Can't go past Gmail Dot. Install Thunderbird & set it up to work with Gmail but make 100% sure you choose POP & not SMTP. (In my opinion)

Dot if you still have Telstra 4G you should be able to keep that address anyway.
What are you changing over? Just you home phone provider?

Dot, as per Bruce Gmail because universal and if you do change providers it will not be the shite fight that I went through with optus or the provider you are with at the time. Optus service stopped 20 ks short of site
( unless you stood in carpark in 40+ heat/rain or on/in somebodys ute with arm or leg in the air) so had to have 2 services Optus and Telstra. Closed the Optus account after Adeles passing, (20 odd years i was with them) lost Optus email straight away, what a bum fight that turned out to be. Lucky had an old work gmail account to fall back on.
regards Wayne
PS answer to Bruce 2 weeks on, one off 1 day travel 880ks to and from 5 days at home to play :|

No also the internet, home ph and mobile. Sth ph will be coming to do the new modem (exchange) in a week or so. The dongle is 4G & is apparently ok to still use when out and about.
Tanks we only use the dongle when away from home.

Really? I've never known Southern Phone to ever do anything other than post out the gear. I was with them some years ago.

My sister has been with them for some years now, Comparing what we were paying with Telstra, Sth ph is roughly half.

Told Telstra to keep their house phones. Got only two mobiles. The main one is optus, because they gave me a good free use of phone and sms, and the second phone is Telstra. It doesn't get used much, just when needed for times/places that optus doesn't cover.
All our internet is done with a wifi dongle from Telstra. It is more than enough for us and gets us coverage in nearly every circumstance that we have experienced. Our next trip will really test it out and I will let you know more as I experience it.
