Bob, When do you plan on take the studs out again? - I wouldn't put anti seize on them. I would on the nuts.
With the tap if you're in a hurry, grind down the end of an intermediate tap;
or get a nice new bolt and grind some slots down the thread. It catches the muck and helps clean a slightly damaged thread.

Re: Bob K's HINO RB
For info... Bob is currently up in Qld with his son Tony & don't think he'll have his laptop with him.
At the end of this week he will fly down to our abode for a few days then go back up to collect Tony & drive back (not in the bus) to Adelaide.
So this thread might just linger a little longer....

Re: Bob K's HINO RB
Hello, here I am. As Chuck advised, and thanks Chuck, I went with my son to a property called Allensleigh, east of Townsville and north of Charters Towers on a shooting trip. And didn't shoot a thing. Tony is unfortunately unwell and as a bucket list thing we towed his Polaris buggy from Adelaide to get some quality time (on my part) and for Tony to get some time with a very good mate at Airlie Beach. We had a brilliant trip. And on return, I went with a group to the Flinders Ranges for some 4WD experience and good old fashioned fixing of the world around the campfire. Another brilliant trip. So now I am back and have an urge to move with the bus. Yesterday I delivered it to a mechanical workshop for the replacement of the front spring rear shackles and they will also do the front brake hoses and then take the vehicle to Regency Park for inspection following the four required 'fixes' noted by the inspectors. I'm not sure if I mentioned that I fixed the broken manifold studs problem and the trip to the workshop was the first run following my work. So far so good. I was looking at Bernie and Carol's Isuzu fitout and reckon there is a lot for me to learn there as the buses look similar. A brilliant job you two and well done!

Re: Bob K's HINO RB
Good evening, today I got a call from the man doing the suspension repair with the news that the new bushes were very loose in the spring 'eyes' and some damage from a previous repair where somebody had removed old bushes by cutting them and (I assume) damaging the spring. So it looks like new top leaves for both springs. Bugga. New brake hoses are to be locally manufactured because it seems there are none around. Hino only had one in Sydney and would have to get another from Japan: and just think of the first class air fare for that! Ah well, $#it happens.

Bob,
I had the same with one of my springs. The eye had opened. Had to get a new spring made by Spicers in Melbourne.

Hi Jon, I went to the fixers today and they showed me the damaged parts, the spring top leaves have been sent to a spring works to close the eyes so that is apparently straight forward, but the fixed part of the spring hangers, the bit attached to the chassis had previously had the bushes removed with a gas axe. The tubes the bushes fit into had been cut by the oxy so new hanger bits have been purchased, not aware of the costs yet.

Re: Bob K's HINO RB
Good evening all. Well my previous post suggested they were going to repair the spring 'eyes' but in the end I have two new top leaves to the springs. The job completed, and with new front brake hoses, the people who did the work for me took the bus for it's re-inspection yesterday and it passed. I am one very happy man. Today I went to Motor Registry to register the bus and aside from a paperwork glitch that took too long to fix up, I walked out with three months rego and a wallet $830 dollars lighter. Sheesh. It is registered as a van until the unit can be called a motor home by the addition of (minimum) seats and a table, sleeping accommodation, cooking facilities and storage facilities. The registration costs will also then be lower. I don't know the cost of the work done for me yet, but I am happy that I had the work done as it was certainly beyond me and my facilities. I will pick up the bus on Monday, hopefully still smiling.

Congratulations Bob.
A massive achievement to get a set of plates. It took me 5-6 years on the Bedford.
