For those full timers

How did you go selling up your house and all your stuff? I don't have a problem selling the house but what about all the things we love...art and furniture and craft supplies and tools?
We intend on having a garage sale, giving things to friends and donating the rest to the Salvos or the tip. Easy to say.

Was it easier to get your heads around once you had the bus in your driveway?

I would find it just about impossible to get rid of quite a lot of stuff but I guess like some others on here you could always use a storage place for a while until you got things sorted in your head. Maybe think of selling your house as walk in walk out.

Our daughter got lucky with the stuff we wanted to keep, we have just about filled one of their sheds, Furniture, sell it and buy more when travels are over, Craft, she packed some away and we took some and it continues to breed and grow. Tools I claimed 11/2 bins and took whatever I could fit in and thought I might need. We started getting rid of stuff 1st garage sale 2nd online in the local classified page and the rest went to charities and the mens shed.

Thanks guys. We know we will never be able to buy a house again so every time I think about putting stuff in storage I think 'why'?, we will never have need of it again. It's tricky.

What sort of bus and setup do you have Gary and how long have you been travelling?

12M Denning bus fitted out for 2 people and a dog. Aframe a Mazda BT50 Ute, put the bus on the road Sept 2009 and hit the road full time May 2012

Hi Gary Trish and Mr Pepper, have you found that you got rid of something that you wish you hadn't?

Only one thing, that was a 12m off road volvo bus I converted and cruised at between 120-140kph, lived permanently in it for more than 10 years, my ex convinced me to sell it and buy another property, so the kids could settle and go to school. That was a failure, so got rid of a few things I no longer needed, like wife.

Been travelling since was 8, on the road playing for about 40 years and in the last 2.5 decades have had my own permanent base. Each time I've moved, i get rid of everything but my musical gear, vehicle and dog. The rest goes and I start again, but now in my 70's love the idea of returning home to Tas and relaxing for a few weeks before hitting the road again. There is nothing like the quiet and tranquility of sth Tas and the wonderful weather patterns we get, not forgetting the regular southern lights display that turns to place at night into a kaleidescope of colours.

This year have just been cruising Tas, but we head off at the end of August for an 8 week tour of Vic, SA and sth NSW. We have some music festivals and gig commitments here before that.
