MR11 LED White

Hope that means something to someone here.

All the lights in our new - to us - van are LED... except 4 reading lights n the lounge area & 2 in the bedroom, 1 in the ensuite & 1 in the kitchen. I finally found out that these 8 lights are all MR11 fittings & as we were out shopping yesterday we dropped into Hardly Normal lighting in Penrith for a quick bo-peep. They are now selling LED's & showed us a 0.8w LED that, when shown next to our current globes, appeared to be significantly brighter.

So we bought one to take back & try in-situ.

$13... yeah, I know, DX is so much cheaper - but up till this moment I had no idea what I was looking for... &, as it turned out - with that particular LED I could smile brighter than that!

Currently looking on line at DX au - around $5 - but getting confused with the variety of MR11's available. I realise that brightness is a relevant thing but what do I look for to determine the brightness or is there an average that most would be satisfied with?

Cool white for brighness, warm light for mood and reading. In my opinion.

Put up some links to examples and maybe I can point out the difference between them. Some quote lumens, some candle power, some watts. The lumens and the spread angle of the light tells a lot, the k number, the higher the whiter/blue the colour, the bright white/blue is not always idea for reading. 3 x 1w leds light up and area more than one 3w led but a single 3w led puts out a narrow beam of light that penetrates through smoke and fog that the multi leds can't.
Warm white (3200k to 3500k) are good soft area lights, cool white (6500k) really light up an area or spot but can be hard on the eyes, intense white (7000k to 8000k) are blindingly bright, for work lights or area lights that you are not likely to accidentally look into, the bright spot remains in the eyes for a long time. Less than 3000k and the light is yellow, a bit like the old filament globes. The watts are how much power is behind the light, a 3 w with a 60 deg spread lights from ceiling to floor quite well, a 10w across a football field, a 0.5w is a nice bright book light on a stick.

Do you have a Beacon lighting nearby. They have a better range than Hardly Normal. Usually they have them lit up so you can guage the output, although it is a pain when they put 2types in one bay. They also give seniors card holders 10% off.

The first one should make a reasonable bedside reading light if it's on the head board and directional, as long as reflected glare isn't a problem, it would make shiny magazines near impossible to read.
The second one is an area light such as over a bench top or makeup table although the blue white light tends to distort colours a bit, a fresh steak under a 2w 6500k temperature bright white led looks like aged meat where some what second hand greens look like just picked fresh under the same light, you'll notice they use different lighting for different areas in Woolies for that reason.

Just had a successful - I hope - trip to Jaycar, & came away with a full compliment of the required MR11 globes/bulbs/lamps... whatever.

The brand name is... ECOLUME & specs are:

Colour: warm white.
Brightness: 130lm.
Angle: 120 degree
Colour temp: 3500K.
LED Type: 12 x 5050 SMD.
Dimensions: 34(Dia) x 29 (D)mm

HAs 12 led's & works well.

Also included 2 x cool white - one each for rear ensuite & front kitchen over bench areas.

Only difference is that the original had a glass lens & these don't... is that a problem?

Cost was $11 for the warm white & $14 for the cool white.

You will love them I got home at 1 am yesterday and went to check dingo. With one light fitting 2 leds. They were drawing 0.1 amps.
