Re: Life after the CMCA?
Not really, our travel is mostly controlled by our gigs, which makes it difficult to be where others are. We sometimes hang out with a Tas MH group, but that's rare as we are normally somewhere else working when they all get together. CMCA being what it used to be was good, we would run into members at different places, so it was worth it, the magazine and forum were good. Don't even know how it became a company, we certainly didn't vote for it and have yet to meet anyone who did. When we quired it on the forum, got banned, they closed the forum and so decided that was it, they still send us renewal forms and reminders, which go straight back and must be wasting them money. Would never join again, just a waste of time and money, especially since the magazine turned into an advertising magazine.justgarbage wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:49 pmTake you point native pepper, so did you find what you were seeking, and if so where?native pepper wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:49 am Pretty simple really, joined a club not a corporation and felt members no longer had any say, plus the direction it was heading as a company, wasn't what we saw as useful as we wanted to belong to MH club.

Re: Life after the CMCA?
We joined when we first bought our motorhome, the previous owners told us the best insurance was Ken Tame and that we needed to be a member of CMCA to get it. We did check for insurance from other places but being a 40 year old bus, no one was interested.
So we joined CMCA and have been a member ever since, also had KT insurance since then.
I did enjoy the old forum, but kept away from all the political crap, and was disappointed when it closed down.
I did like the Geowiki and the fact that it was for club members only.
I will continue with CMCA even if I go for a different insurance in the future.
For me they are the only national voice for us motorhomers and they are active not only in lobbying for us all, but also provide dump points and other useful things for when we are on the road.
I think $44 per year to be quite a reasonable donation to further this voice and services.
My personal opinion... I think too many are happy to avail themselves of the benefits but unwilling to give a little to help make this happen.
Remember though, I was not personally affected by any animosity in the previous forum, and for those that were I can understand some reluctance.
Cheers,

Re: Life after the CMCA?
The reason clubs become corporations is that if the business goes up the wall then all the members are liable for any thing like somebody sues etc. Thus all clubs needed to be a Company Limited. Just because we have $5m in the bank it's not much if a big suite is taken out against us. I think that the board members were first on the list of a case and this was there to help protect them.
Otherwise no one would stand for the board.

G'day again. Um, from memory all I saw was "last post one month ago, two months ago" etc. perhaps I should just dive in and post, fire 'em up ? ! Nah, I've found the forum for me right herejustgarbage wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:59 pmThanks Janelle. Could you expand a little re being very quite over there?GoinBush wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:28 pm Hi,
We joined so we could access the forum and to get discounted insurance for when we ever get a bus. I don't know anything about the club setup or politics and I am not interested. I found the forum to be very quiet and I haven't looked there in ages.
Janelle.

I forgot about the magazine. We enjoyed getting that in the mail.

$44 seems reasonable to create a strength in numbers for a recreational pursuit you love. I felt I should join. However I have concern that as lowly caravanners, the agenda fought for may not be in our interests... and hence we will probably not become members.
I am not sure why the voting exclusion continues...

Steve

Re: Life after the CMCA?
Steve, that is where I come from too. When we first bought a caravan, we joined. We hoped to find some fellowship and kindred spirits, what we did find was that as caravanners we were second class citizens. A lot of that has changed, but we came to the realisation that it is basically a motor home group and we don't really have a motor home. We joined a jayco owners group and go out with them regularly and as such the members all consider the group to be our second family. I really liked the annual printed booklet of all the suitable places to stop, it no longer is printed. I no longer need to be a member to access wikicamps (it's on my phone now). So basically the club is not for us caravanners. That is their prerogative and I save $40 per year.
