Dot,
Can you take a close up photo of the 5B lever?
And did George try to see if the lever can lift up?
I hate it when someone can sit in a machine and tell the operator that nothing is wrong.... WHEN the operator has been driving the machine for ages and just know the feel and when it feels 'different'. "just a transient" pffft.
Doooottttttttt, where are you???

Dot, The easiest to explain a 'servo' is that it is like the brake booster in your car. It reduces the force required to push the clutch in. The one in your bus uses air pressure to assist, whereas most cars use vacuum.
I thought that Gman said that you had no trouble pushing the clutch in though?
Cheers

The lever was quite "solid" it didn't lift up.jon_d wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2017 6:55 pm Dot,

The guy did quite a bit of pushing, pulling, poking, motor on and off, moving gear stick in out up down across and he thought more likely a transient thing as it doesn't happen all the time.

Can you take a photo of the shiny part?
If its why why is it shiny and everything else is dirty?
The 5B lever doesn't rotate 360* to keep it polished.
By any chance, do you have as photo of the gear box from a long time ago?

Re: Doooottttttttt, where are you???
Jon I wonder if there is a wear lip on the shaft that the clutch plate sits on?
Pressing the clutch releases the pressure plate but the clutch plate won't slide back off the fly wheel.
Could be a little dry or a lip on the spline?
EDIT: that shiny thing may just be a floating washer or something vibrating around & round?

Ah ha,that is the cylinder looking thing the mechanic was looking at and he suggested it may have a bit of crap or ? moisture or even a valve malfunction inside the cylinder, hence the term transient
That is right David the clutch had no trouble pushing it in it was disconcerting to me because when I tried to engage the clutch to go down from 6th to 5th the pedal went straight to the floor (no resistance) It didn't disengage the 6th gear (it stayed in 6th)
Jon, the shiny part is a washer, why it is shiny ?? G said it has been like that for years. ? Don't know what the metal is but it is hard and flexible and thin.

Re: Doooottttttttt, where are you???
Hi Bruce,
Yes, could be.
We can only really go on the symptoms and photos.
My interpretation which might be completely wrong;
I've sort of ruled out the clutch because when it was "stuck" in 6th, the other gears can be be used. If the other gears can't be used then that brings the clutch back into the equation.
There may be many possibilities; I've just following one which sort of sticks out; the 6th gear lever has a polished housing seat; why?

Re: Doooottttttttt, where are you???
Dot;
sorry, can we clarify some points please;
1 it felt just like normal. (ie nothing felt wrong)
2. it was not hard and I didn't have to press normally; like it just no pressure at all
And does: " It didn't disengage the 6th gear (it stayed in 6th) "
mean, when I have the pedal pressed, I couldn't shift the out of 6th. ie the lever wouldn't move?
