You've got yourself a big job there Bernie.
I have my doubts that you will get it off without removing the injector pump as well...
Then you also have to think about keeping all the cogs aligned so as not to disturb the injector pump timing.
Not for the faint hearted, that's for sure.
I need to do mine sometime as well, it's not pumping oil, but just not pumping enough air.
My intention is to take the head and barrel off the pump, remove the piston and just renew all of that, leaving the crank and gears etc alone.
Might be something to consider...
Yep it's a big job Bernie . If I can get the cam gear off I can then remove the backing plate compressor and all , otherwise it's remove the injector all the gears have markings so only need to line them up before removing same with injector pump should be a easy job...it's getting all the other stuff out of the way first.
What were you thinking Dot leaving the socket at home???
BernieQ .
Bernie, Looks like you are off to Bundy on Monday to buy a socket. Or can you do an over the phone credit card it from one of the tool or auto parts places and get a courier to drop it off in Biggenden? You should have mentioned this a month ago when we didn't know we were going to bump into each other and I could have loaned you one then.
Don't any of those old Whitworth sockets come close to doing the job?
Cheers

I hadn't thought of those sockets Dave will check tomorrow. But I don't remember any that large .
Your as bad as Dot why didn't you have some sykic revelation and on the odd chance that me and bandit would catch up.?
Bernie .

2 1/8 AF will do it. They're not uncommon - I can't put my hand on it right now but I think that's what I carry for the Suburban Heater anode. I think the nearest Whitworths will be too small and too large.
Good on ya Steve you don't live in the bush nuffins easy to get without a 200K round trip for me .
Yes Jon the manual covers the compressor removal . Thanks again for the manual two years back now mate .
I will exhaust all my neighbour's and the local businesses' to see if I can borrow one .
Might look at emptying the radiator tomorrow it has to come out not enough room with it there , have to start some where .
Bernie .
Bernie you please make darn sure you don't wind the bus off the stand when you try undoing the balancer!!
Maybe put the wheel back on at least until you crack it. (good luck!)
So the injector pump drives through the compressor through to the gear driving off the camshaft gear?
At least my old Mercedes had a belt drive compressor . (& water cooled!)
You sure that gear won't fit through the housing? Looks like a big enough hole.
