Calling BobnBev

Post by Swisslulu »

Or anyone else who can help. We’ve just hit the road on our way to Tassie from Maryborough Qld and our 38l Engel is not cooling on fridge or freezer. We can hear what we think is the compressor but may be just the fan. Have tried on 12v and 240v. Any ideas?
Cheers

Hi Leslie my 20 plus year old 29 l Engel did the same thing motor runs no cooling
Got in touch with the guy I bought it from he said unrepairable.
So if Bob can fix your's I might have a trip to Mildrua.

We saw Bob & Bev a few weeks back and they were both well, but Bob is flat chat doing fridge repairs for the mob he subbies for, so might need to catch him on the lithium forum or via email.... or even a phone call might work  If it is fixable Bob can fix it better than when it was new cause he adds the better gas when the repair is completed. The pump will vibrate if it is working, put it on a piece of wood to act as a sound board and you will be able tel if it's the fan or compressor running.... cause they are noisy B things compared to the Waeco of a similar size.
from seeing some of the rebuilds Bob has done, I'm gunna take a punt it is the metal clip on the end of the motor windings has broken off and jammed up the works.

The unit is only 5 years old so we’re not ready to bin it without a fight. Will try Terry’s piece of wood test and then get in touch with Bob to see what he thinks. We might be able to get someone in Tassie to give it the once over. Failing that we might be able to see if Bob has time to look at it once we are back on the big island. Thanks for the help everyone.
Cheers

Aldi have 22L 12/240 coolers out for $99.99. Probably by ten of them for what fixing the Engel will cost. Cost me about $750.00 about 5 years ago to fix my 40L Engel.

If you are travelling through this way maybe drop it off so we can pass it on to Bob next time we travel that way, then you can pick it up at Stone The Crows.

I waiting for him to come through Mannum so he can see why mine doesn't work on 12v. Ok on 240v so have to use that but we want to use it for a future ferry trip down the river so want to take a Lithium Battery and solar panel to keep it going.
