Not sure which engine you have but my ol' girl has the 8143:.... engine and there is a tap on the bottom of that steel filter in the middle of your photo. There are also wires going to it that light up a warning on the dash before anything major goes bang.
One thing about the Iveco's is that most of the lights are just warning lights that allow you time to go fix things.
(brake linings, low fluids etc etc)
If no tap on yours then I'd be changing that filter as scheduled or earlier.
I've bled mine a couple of times and only got clean fuel. Best do it after settled over night.
You could spin it off & empty into a dish to check?
I guess it won't hurt installing an extra one but if it changes the flow it might upset the computer?
