Just watched two WiniBangos go past my bus leaving Aysons Reserve with their grey water tank taps open and the water running out.
Wish I could have got a photo.
We are trying to keep the grounds and some people cant learn. They were left over from the CMCA chapter meet so should have known better.

Re: Grey water grubs
Why did you identify them as Winnebagos rather than MH'ers. After all people with converted buses would never do that. And for that matter, I would be interested in knowing just how many caravans (with no grey water tanks) were camped there. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the practice is ok but labelling the offenders into one group is my problem. So were there any caravans camped there? and did you get offended by their dumping of grey water? Were there signs stating only fully self contained vehicles to camp there or discouraging the dumping of grey on the ground?

Re: Grey water grubs
They were both Winibago mid size so not new chums i would think.
I have talked to a few caravanners here as well but usually they are obvious and yes some don't want to hear what you have to say but it is there.
There were many here with the hoses out most just on the ground to let it go fresh and some with them down into the river
But to save your water for the extent of a stay, and that would have been up to a week and then just let it go as they depart the camp ground when they should know better worries me.
If they collected it whilst here why not go to the dump point down the road and dump instead of letting it go as they depart ?
To me, it is worse to store it and then release on departure, than letting the water go fresh as it soaks away slowly during the day and is not contaminated with the built up bacteria.
This site is under appraisal on whether to let it exist in some way or close it down. They are talking of bollards 20mtrs from any water so no parking near the trees etc.
No dumping of grey water in the toilets allowed now and the cleaner was saying there has been a lot of complaints requiring him from Rochester and his boss from Echuca needing to come and check. So far he has not seen any undue rubbish here but there has been lots of complaints so even if there is no rubbish we are still condemned so why add to the problems..
I have discussed with the ranger and the cleaner re dump points and how people usually spend in the town where they dump but as I am no longer a member of CMCA I cant do anymore.
There was a chapter meeting here and is most weekends and yet the Ranger and the cleaner both appeared to not know what a dump point was.
I nearly got the camera out and took photos as they went right past my bus with it was running out in a reasonable steady stream so not just a bit left over after a hose was disconnected, they came from right up in the corner and I am opposite the toilets. As I am no longer a CMCA member there is nothing I can do anyhow and besides it would not make any difference.

Re: Grey water grubs
I am sure anyone (CMCA member or not) could email a complaint to the CMCA and they would do whatever they can because we need to do the right thing or we will ALL lose another great site.
enquiries@cmca.net.au
Maybe even a description of their rig with where they were camped might be enough for the Chapter members to work out who it was ??
NOTE ... I have seen many fresh water tanks overflow on departure because they were brim full .. so be aware of that too

Re: Grey water grubs
Yes I agree Brian it is poor form. But what I can't understand is that you have a problem with driving off whilst dumping it but not be that concerned with it being dumped from a hose whilst camped up or being dumped directly into the creek. Fresh (as you put it) is still got soap scum and detergents in it as well as bacteria. And I don't think the Winnebago bacteria is any different to any other RV.
So the answer to my earlier question "Were there signs stating only fully self contained vehicles to camp there or discouraging the dumping of grey on the ground?" would be no.
Maybe the local council should put up a list of requirements that is expected from the campers before they cry foul.

Re: Grey water grubs
So where do we email to advise when we see a caravanner running his/her grey water straight on to the ground? I have seen this many times...even camped on the side of a river, there's the grey making it's way into the system.
But are you sure that they were CMCA members? How did you know?

Re: Grey water grubs
It may have been that the initial movement of the vehicle caused residual water to empty. My practice is to always leave the grey tank valve open unless I am in an area where it is inappropriate or prohibited to drain grey water. I know that sometimes a little grey water escapes when I move off but I dont have a problem with that, after all, it is just water that has no harmful product in it.
In a caravan park, where I always ask if it is permitted to allow grey water onto the grass (and it usually is), you can bet that if a grain of corn or a scrap of carrot escapes that the birds will be most pleased. I always check that I haven't left any sign of waste when I pack up.
It seems to me that some regard it as never appropriate to discard grey water anywhere other than at a dump point (more so on other forums), however, if the water is clean I think it better to water the grass.

Re: Grey water grubs
I guess it depends on who sets the rules ... so I guess it is up to those who put up the NO CAMPING signs ?
I am sure we have never lost a campground because we have emptied into an approved Dump Point.
I would never drive with the grey water tap open either - a very bad look in my opinion... and what are you achieving anyway ?? Drain a dribble, look bad to everyone and then add more to the tank when you stop ??? Probably achieve more by leaving some in the tank and letting it slop around to clean the scum from the tank while you drive.
If in doubt - don't let it out....unless in an approved manner.
