Reworked the engine bay door for better hot air exit, one side done, the other tomorrow.
A beer from your fridge for the first one to pick which is the old side and which is the new.

I wonder if it will make an improvement. There was a very large area already.

Is there an air flow from under the engine on these big rigs ?
I woulda thought that would create enough cooling.
Perhaps driving styles and the trailer towing affects the cooling.
Is there a difference with/without the trailer Bill ?

I think that it will make little difference,I came home monday when in 40+ temps with the engine sitting on 86c, was very happy with that :)

We spent a bucket on the swagmans cooling system, new radiator, fan, turbo preheat etc etc...its still running quite hot, though if we pull over and idle for a few mins it drops real fast, I suspect the thermostat. Will take back to Natrad who did the work.

Some years ago I spent way too much money trying to get my truck to run cooler.
I changed the radiator from a 4 row core to a 6 row .... no better.
I put a slightly smaller pulley on the water pump so it ran faster ... no better.
Had a chat to the head mechanic at Mercedes in Adelaide.
He told me that the truck I had was turbo'd in Germany but because of our heat they removed the turbos.
He reckon that the water just can't absorb the heat from the block quick enough to do the job on even a warm day.
Advised to buy a Yank truck ... Cummins or Detroit.

Martin, if that the temp comes back quick with no load then there is most likely not much wrong with it, just not designed for AU heat.
Mine was built to run 2 up Perth to Sydney with 50 pax. :) It was doing 500,0000 ks a year when new.
