George has a solar panel on his head but gets no energy from it, might need to give it a cut and polish
And a good wax, but no solar panel works well in doors or when covered, so get him out in the yard without his hat on for a while after the wax job and see how he goes. If his knees buckle and he goes a wobbly or down for the count he might have over charged so you'll need to bring him back in the shade and poor cold water on him, then watch just how charged up he got

If I do a really good polish job on my SP and make it really really shiny......why doesn't it reflect more sunlight and decrease solar absorbtion.....Huh....why don't it.....Huh...

Just a quick kweschyun.......

If it was reflecting light it would appear white because that is the full spectrum mixed into one light wave, if it reflected no light it would appear black because none of the light spectrum was being reflected. It depends on the wavelength you see reflected from the solar panel, if that is not a wave length the panel can turn into electricity then the more that is reflected the cooler the panel will remain.
Tests before and after show a great improvement in electrical panel output and cooler under panel temperature so what ever wave length you see reflected isn't used by the panel to create electricity but must have caused the panel to absorb heat when it was not reflected.
Well science/logic says that's the case, no doubt some armchair witchdoctor on that other forum says different but do they have any actual tests to back up their theories?

I note that many of the water heating solar panels have an opaque finish to the glass.
interesting
Different requirement, they are looking at capturing heat not a select light band. The evacuated tubes with the black chrome inner tube are very clear and the black inner tube is highly reflective, yet they work far better than the copper plate type. As a demo, fill one of these tubes with water and hold it vertical in full sun. It will remain cold to the touch but the water will start to boil out the top after 30 mins or less, I've seen it as quick as 10 mins but the water wasn't ice cold in that demo and the sun was burn the flesh off hot.
