Re: Chatting about camping areas Big Rigs
Hi there.
We are in a 10m Winnebago and have found most areas are accessible around Australia. Usually the harder ones to get into are caravan parks built in the 70s when vans were a lot smaller. But I did fit into an 8 m site once, diagonally!
We had a trailer/4x4 in the back but sold that after an 8 week trip up to Tamworth from Melbourne. 17m is just too long when dealing with CPs or even some camp grounds. We came back and sold both. Now Tracey drives the Prius and I drive the MH. Trace considers herself the advanced scout and figures out the best place to stop in the chosen campsite. Works a treat for both of us.
I find that if you say that you are in a 10m MH sometimes people panic a bit about the area needed. It’s not that big and I would even say it’s less room needed than a car/caravan of similar size.
We swear by WikiCamps as the comments are a useful indicator of the road in and what you will find in there. After 2 years we can sort of read between the lines and sort out the BS.
Anyway, my 2cents worth is that big rigs can fit in most places.
Mick

The big rigs group of the cmca are a tad particular on what s called a BIG rig. Our bus at 10m plus the car is not considered big enough.. When we need to scout out a cp for example G will unhook the car and do a drive around to check all the sites out otherwise all other free spots have been very suitable for us.

One spot we really enjoyed on our very first trip was Jericho at the old racecourse. Safe travels

Re: Chatting about camping areas Big Rigs
Our experience is most CP owners have NO idea what a big rig (at 19 mtrs) is, you can describe it to buggery but as soon as you turn up they have faeces in their pants.
Latest was at Stanthorpe last week, only went into one as there is bugger all free camps around there.
"No problems mate, we have 40 foor busses here all the time"
Well I found a park, hung out both ends of it, and if there had been anyone else there it may have been an issue !
NFI which stands for NO F*&$#ing IDEA
We have hit this many times, and they wonder why we don't choose to stay in their CP's ?
Fortunately I was only there on a wine buying trip, to get back at them I just left both aircons on all day. Didn't make much difference though when it was minus 3 at night !

Re: Chatting about camping areas Big Rigs
We are y no means a BIG rig but we have been caught out when we had to use a cp, now George takes the car and goes driving around every cp before we enter their gates just to be sure. Like you Bill we use every thing electrical that we can, even do a week or two's meals up.
