Moisture content of lining

Post by RobertNotBob »

Can any one confirm what is the acceptable level of Moister Content (MC) in the lining of a caravan. Done a bit of reading and for timber inside a house it is 8 to 14 MC. Thank you Robert

I've got no idea about an accurate answer for you Robert but it does sound like an interesting research exercise.
It would be fun to check the MC (what is that? :? ) of a new van on the factory floor, and recheck it on a monthly basis once sold and used.

Now waitng for more info from others ;)

If it's any explanation, there is such a small amount of insulation materials in most caravans, that moisture would be the least of your worries.
Obviously this would vary between brands and different models. But of the 4 different vans that we have had, only 2 of them were jayco, none had very thick insulation and most was just the equivalent of tin foil.

It’s probably no help whatsoever, but in wood turning, 10~12% is considered ideal. Under 5% is considered too dry to use.
I would imagine similar conditions would apply to cabinetry, which is what you are looking at.
