Another great NSW site!

On our short (3wk) break, we discovered a great bush camp just north of Bourke: May's Bend.
It's in CAW.
Ten km from the Info Centre, turn right. Three km of dirt road to an ENORMOUS area for free camping, right on the Darling River.
NO FACILITIES! You MUST be totally self-contained.
Great walking tracks, and if you're game to tackle the steep gully to the left in your vehicle, more campsites. High-clearance 4WD recommended... there have been LOTS of towbar scrapes at the bottom.
There is a mob of resident kangaroos who seem to tolerate humans on their grazing paddock, but will bolt if you get too close.
Dogs OK, but keep them on lead, for the kangaroos' sake.
Warning: Dry weather road only. People we spoke to had been there after rain. Black soil quagmire.

Re the dogs V Roos. I would be backing the roos, seen one grab a dog by its front legs, kicked the dogs guts out then headed for the dam where it was held under, just in case the de bowelling didn't do the job . Stupidity on the owners part, didn't take notice of the signs clearly stated to keep dogs on leads at all times. Sounds you are having a good time away Ray

Back home, now, Dot,
FIVE loads of washing...
Also two RED dogs to be bathed. The big red one was a black Lab when we started. The little red one was a tri-colour Beagle.
Both decided it was cooler in the dirt under Girt than in the shade on our outdoor mat.
Fortunately, original colouring has been restored.
Lots of catch-up in the yard, too. Feral Capeweed to spray... what little grass there is had to be mowed... roses watered... the list goes on.........

That's the trouble with going away, all the work to be caught up on plus the rig and animals to also clean then the repacking of the rig ready for the next trip away and so it goes. But if you had a great time away then it was worth it. ( I think)

Have spent a couple of nights at May's Bend many years ago. Onlyh one other there but we still could not find a spotthat was easy to park at- very wheel marked after some rain & cattle shite as well as hoof prints everywhere. Very little water in river but things change every year as you all know with "dirt".
