If I could do it over...

I installed a brand new 175 litre three way as per the book and I'll never have another gas fridge for one simple reason - during high wind conditions, the pilot light keeps blowing out when the bus is sideways to the wind on the fridge side! And another thing (OK, I lied), they just do not work as efficiently as compressors chewing through the gas while the compressor has reached temperature and shut down long ago.

But (and there is always a but), due to your financial situation consider this:

If you get the heater and travel south in winter, you will be going against the traffic 8-) with vastly better camp site options, the fridge will not be as great a concern and you will keep warm outside in the daytime because the fishing is better in the wintertime.

dawg (who doesn't follow his own good advice sometimes - errr, make that most of the time :( )
Experience is a wonderful thing. It helps you recognise a mistake when repeated.

Ummmm.... a 3way fridge is a gas fridge Brad, do you mean a 175ltr compressor fridge? I know someone who bought a compressor fridge off someone who had removed it to fit a 3 way fridge, the guy who got the compressor fridge is very happy ;) :P

The Bride ( wife Barbara ). Has told me with my arthritis we are getting a diesel heater by hook or by crook before winter. No matter how far north we go this year . Lol
So that settles that argument till later this year, when we are back in S.A.
Now the question is which do I get?. One outlet or two
Our van is set out with large U shaped lounge at the rear, center kitchen. Ensuit and shower on opposite sides in front of the kitchen. And front bedroom which is virtually makes this van 2 seperate room .
We are going to put one outlet under the U shaped lounge facing down towards the bedroom .so it will heat our main living area , where we spend most of our time. Which is the lounge kitchen . But have a feeling that the heat won't really , heat the bedroom as well.
So thinking another outlet in the bedroom .
Only $40 difference between a one outlet kit and two.
Also only comes with 2 x 1mtr duct hoses. Which for the lounge outlet is fine as its less that that from where the unit is going to the lounge outlet. So another question. Where do I buy more ducting, so I'm buying it and not getting charged heaps more by who's putting it in ?

So, the toilets on one side and the shower on the other? Is there enough room in the shower area to get dried and dressed? If so, this would be a good place to have an outlet, it then would double as a clothes drying area.
Maybe 3 outlets, two that can be shut down, one in the bedroom and one in the shower, the third in the lounge room that ha ouvers to direct it toward the kitchen.

The ducting tube can bought from auto parts places and Custom Coaches and I think it called UWE, they are the importers of all that sort of stuff. If you have the time, look on international EBay, a lot cheaper overseas than within Aust.

If you are nice and warm in the lounge room the bed room is not going to be cold [the van is only 22'] put the other outlet in the shower room, after all when you leave the lounge your going to get into bed and as you will be already warm you'll be as snug as a bug in a rug.

I must be missing something as I can't see where you say your van is 22'. No matter. FWIW, we have a smallish van (16' 6") with two diesel heater outlets. One vents in the bed area and the other in the combined shower/toilet. I would not be without the latter but feel the former is wasted venting back towards the bed. I would rather have it either in or facing towards the dining area. As it is, we open the door to the combo (opposite the dining area) to get more of the warmth. We think it's better than sliced bread!

Pet,The shower is just a large cubical, Not a room. And 22' internal is a big van , outside its 25'. And including the draw bar it's 28'.
The shower is on one side of the van, ensuit on the other and you walk thru the two to the bedroom

Warren, as your bathroom area is open, I would suggest having the second outlet in the bedroom. One outlet in such a big van would not be enough IMHO.
