Wow, Is this on your set up off the interweb? I'd go with a very bad connection and a lot of current running through that joint.. The cable will be stuffed a fair way up from that crimp lug, so a whole new cable will probably be required, and the joint surface cleaned up with one of those scotch brite type buffer pads on a drill and Alminox added.

If the fuse didn't blow,the problem may have been loose nut and bolt,causing heat when under a heavy load.
