We ditched Telstra for Optus because of Telstra's atrocious "customer relations" attitude when we had a data theft problem, and reception problems.
(
"You must be streaming video, because you have definitely used the data." On
ONE bar of
3G reception??

Besides, I don't know how to hook into video streaming... and don't particularly want to.)
However, our recent foray into Outback Queensland showed us that, when it comes to remote travel, we're forced to use Telstra.
So before our next trip, we'll be buying a small-capacity Telstra Pre-Paid SIM...
Regarding the iPlod:
That price is about right.
Our 9YO laptop is now listed in Apple's maintenance database as 'OBSOLETE'
We're planning to go iPlod shortly.
I priced the 12" iPod Pro with WiFi, 4G SIM and built-in keyboard/cover: $1295.00!
I think the 10" iPad might come as a Pro, with a keyboard/cover, but it's almost as pricey at just under $1100 with SIM, but you
can get a bluetooth keyboard cover from another manufacturer for it.
128GB WiFi-
only with aftermarket keyboard/cover: $900 or a coupla dollars under (all up), from memory. That's what our local Apple agent recommended.
Also suggested we use our phone as a
Mobile Hotspot to hook into the interweb. This saves having to add another SIM data plan (more $$$) to your phone contract, too. Cheaper to just nudge your data allowance up to the next level
if needed... the way we use data, we don't.
