Ok you bunch keep your zipper on/up ?

Ian (Cuppa) mate , I'll try again ..From my vague memory I think I said bloody hell you must be bored reading my travel blog !

Yes winter in Tassie is some what different than Qld , not much snow falls at Degilbo .
Except for the mostly constant rain we enjoyed being there , we would be just getting back home around now if Carols Knee/s weren't giving her grief .
They still are had x-ray the other day plus blood tests yesterday and back to the quack on Wednesday .

I do remember asking have you caught any descent fish where your staying ....now back to blank..

I have friends (no comment) from Orbost Vic who moved to Darwin a few years back...now that's a big change in demographics .
They are still there .

Don't no if we will ever get to where your camped but the horizontal falls are still on our bucket list . And possible a quick run across to Broome .
All up in the air but at this time as its a bit far across to walk . Will depend on what we end up with after the sale of the bus .
We may just fly across and use cabins ? who knows .

Carol wants to go back to the dark side and get another caravan.....ducking......That would make a change in the way we think and approach stuff.
There was other stuff but at my age I cant remember (hehe)
David what ever I said to you has gone to the big void in space .

Bad knees are a bugger eh? The knee surgeon offered to put me on his public waiting list for a knee replacement on the left before we left home, reckoned about 8 months, said I was virtually bone on bone. He hadn't looked at the right, but I reckon it's much the same. I thought 8 months wasn't too bad after some of the stories I've heard, but didn't want to change our plans. He agreed to put a note in my file saying that he'd put me on the list if/when I contact him requesting he do so. I'll call when the pain gets too much. Still not too bad. I didn't want to be on the list, turn down an appointment when it came up 'cos we were on the other side of the country, & then get 'penalised' for not accepting.

However what has stopped me from doing as much walking & fishing as I'd like is a slowly worsening problem with achilles tendons on both feet. Julie says I should see a podiatrist in Broome, but when it's a 6 hour return journey (plus time in town), & with a high chance of the need for regular visits, I'm putting it off until we are somewhere more convenient. Short slow walks are manageable, but the best fishing involves wading out quite a long way to a reef at low tides here. And getting down off the cliffs to the beach has a bit involved in it too. Attempts to fish off the beach have been disheartening with nothing even showing interest in nibbling my bait. Fishing right off the beach needs to be at high tide which is always in the middle of the day when it isn't pleasant to be out in the sun. In short catching fish isn't something I've put much effort into since been here. Such is paradise!

From time to time we think about a caravan but I always come back to thinking that despite what many people do, & get away with, that you really need a vehicle which is heavier than the van & powerful enough to pull it to be safe, & that the vast majority of vans on the road are 'accidents waiting to happen'. (Flak jacket on). If we ever did go that way it would not be any bigger than a lightweight single axle jobbie. We know that we would want a 'go anywhere' set up, but unlike our present one, one that includes the ability to cook inside. That one thing is what we miss most, somewhere to cook inside out of the weather, protected from flies & mozzies. Trouble is when the other requirements are a permanently made bed & minimal or no canvas weight & size increase & off road ability starts getting compromised, & the need for a more powerful tow vehicle becomes an issue ....... so we look more toward 'expedition' truck type motorhomes, but prices make the eyes water. So for now we'll stick with the current set up. Every choice of touring vehicle is a compromise, & as compromises go the current set up isn't bad. It does most of what we want. The time will come when the knees, backs etc no longer want to *climb* into bed, & that'll be when we are pushed into a different compromise.
