I have been doing same David. 5 36 am now just woke up and we are off to the South Island about 10am this morning. over nite at Lake Taupo then to Wellington for the ferry.
G'day Norman, your timing is perfect.
Some time back we recorded 2 documentary type thingy about the Ghan train & the Indian Pacific... both were just a visual trip, no commentary & went for about 4 hours each.
Interesting for about the first hour, then rather dull, but we persevered.
Two days ago we managed to download another trip & watched it last night - but what a difference... NZ.
Started on the N Island then progressed down as far as it could go with excellent scenery. Then everyone heading south moved from train to ferry & crossed to the South Island.
Well, the scenery from that point onwards was simply brilliant... again no commentary which simply wasn't needed. At some point the train stopped & but the visual story continued with what appeared to be a Land Rover with a number of cameras fitted to a frame on the outside, all the way down to Milford Sound where they then moved the cameras to a boat & proceeded to show the fantastic scenery there out to the point when there was just water & no more land.
WOW!
Now that 4 hour trip was totally brilliant & not at all boring ... gunna hang on to that one & watch again some day.
It now looks like we may well consider a trip ova the dutch.
