Very nice pics George but the ones of Auschwitz are so gut wrenching how did it feel when you were there?

Re: Our Recent Tour of Eastern Europe and England
Hi Dot, I held some photos back for that reason but we felt we owed it to the victims and survivors to be more aware of their suffering. A friend who was on the same tour was going to give it a miss but after changing her mind now feels that it should be compulsory.

George I think your friend was right, It is almost impossible to comprehend how it ever happened but it did so lets not forget it.
I wonder if this and other atrocities are taught in school or don't they do History any more?

Re: Our Recent Tour of Eastern Europe and England
We hosted a Japanese exchange high school student for two weeks in the late 1980s.
She knew nothing about WW2, or even Hiroshima/Nagasaki!
As far as the Japanese school system was concerned, they never happened.
I wonder how the Education Department there explained the Ground Zero dome to the children living near those towns...
By contrast, SWMBO taught Aust History at Y10~12 level, and spent a month on Vietnam, and another on Gallipoli & WW1, including visits to the Melb War Memorial & the Vietnam Vets Museum down Hastings way. One year she organised a Y12 excursion to the Aust War Memorial in Canberra, and a visit to the Jewish Holocaust Museum in St Kilda. The latter had quite a few students in tears half-way through. Pulls no punches.
Still have the books she taught from -- a whole 800mm shelf of them! Vietnam, Australia's War; Kokoda; The Australian People & The Great War; Between the Wars; War Diaries of Weary Dunlop; Gallipoli Correspondent etc; and some primary source material, wartime books produced by the Armed Forces: Soldiering On; Pacific Victory; Jungle Warfare; Khaki & Green etc... Re-read them occasionally.
Donated a complete set of seven books by the Herald Sun, The First Year of War in Pictures, The Second Year... The Third... etc, to the ANZAC War Memorial in Meandarra, when we noticed they had only one volume of the series.
