New battery box

Post by bellett65 »

Not quite installed but made. But as usual issues, was 25mm short on alloy angle had to go and buy another metre. Just off to good old Bunnings to get hinges for the lid. Can't put the batteries in yet as still got the bathroom scales under them balancing.

 you are cruel bugga, I can see the wheels turning in all the lurkers heads, Terry never mentioned anything about that
Neat looking box, looking forward to seeing all these new set ups in the flesh at Whitfield, the only ones I've actually seen so far is mine and Brian's, and JP & Glenda's on the bench.

You just don't want to know where the saga is up to with fitting the batteries under the Mazda step

Hi Peter, as Lesley says I am in the middle of the battery box project as well. Mine is to fit into the LandCruiser, in front of the fridge slide and behind the rear seats. Made a prototype out of the plywood that the batteries were packed in. I made the box a fair bit wider than the battery, thinking I might be able to fit timer/relay into it. What do you think Terry? Do you have measurements for the timer/relay?

Peter, I might steal your idea with the angle irons - looks good that way. The lid will have to be a screw on lid - not enough room for a hinge.

Hope to have the LandCruiser operational by the 1st March - start of our big trip...

Erich,
That is 4mm X 40mm aluminium angle. Really easy to work with. The box is going under the bed. It now has a lid on that extends over the edge by 100 mm to give protection to the wiring that will be coming out of it. I have now got all 4 cells balancing. I have had one on for 26 hours and not much movement. Only up to 3.38v from 3.31. the other 3 have been on an hour now and are up from 3.31 to 3.33.
I have most parts here or in the post. But no one told me about having to solder things, so I am trying to work a way around that one. I am looking forward to Whitfield when we will all be able to swap notes good and bad.

Your set up looks awesome compared with my little one.

Will put up piccies once box is in.

I know what he is going through. It took me a week to get up the courage to get the saw out. Now I am dreading the wiring, not because of the wiring. I went and Sikaflexed the circuit board onto the inside foot of the bed. Now to do the wiring I will have to get inside the bed base. It is all part of the challenge.

Erich,
The heatsink and relay is 100mm wide x 70mm long and 30mmm high, the timer box is 50mm wide x 80mm long x 30mm high, the smoke alarm is 100mm diameter x 30 high, should all fit by the look of it. you will need some airflow to cool the heatsink so some 13mm holes in the base and the up side at the heatsink end should be enough.
