They are nice looking gauges Dirk, that link goes into the favourites for future reference when the big bus dash is getting organised.

Re: Instrument repairs
In the dim past, we had add-on trip meters for rally driving. I think the brand name was "Halda".
They were mechanical and fitted on the back of the speedo. The speedo still worked.
One of those would save the need to write it all down.
I made an electronic version out of a calculator.
The new ones would not be cheap but there might be a few on Ebay.
If your speedo does need new gears, there are plenty of machine shops that can make replacements (for a price).

Re: Instrument repairs
Dirk, Thanks for that link.It will be useful for another project I am working on. My GPS already has a speedo display and odometer. The only reason I wanted to fix the Coaster unit was because I use the GPS in a number of vehicles.Kelvin12 wrote:Have you given a thought for a GPS speedo to replace the old one. Might be cheaper than a repair. They are available in the US, http://www.speedhut.com/gauges/GPS-speedometers

Re: Instrument repairs
Peter, It's been a while since I have played with a speedo but I think I will give it a go. It probably contains similar bits as a 'Cruiser anyway. Looks like my Xmas is buggered now anyway. The missus did her knee in today, so we won't be going anywhere now. And I can't make it any worse can Ioldtrack123 wrote:.................
Hi
That looks like it is one of the geared digits ,probably the decimal digit or the drive after the speedo ,into the digit train..................

Does anyone know what the old instrument repairers are called now. Or for that matter does anyone fix things anymore. Should I just go to the wreckers and get another speedo? Everything else works fine , it just won't clock k's

Re: Instrument repairs
Actually, Mr Bob Otto sold out the company quite a few years ago and is happy in retirement, he is the tresurer of our Sunbeam car club and has a sunbeam Tiger as his toy. Still does repair work for Channel 10 techs, they appreciate his skill with making anything work.oldtrack123 wrote:Now there is a company that has been operating for a looong timeTigerMK1 wrote:Otto instrument repairs at Salisbury, Brisbane.
