So where is T1 now? I'm guessing the valves hit the pistons so a full set of valves required, but what other damage?

Sounds like the famous analysis by Ian Geoghan (Who? 'Sixties sedan racer!) of an engine failure in his V8 Ford Galaxy at the (now defunct) Katoomba circuit,
"We had a slight electrical problem: a conrod came through the side of the block and knocked the distributor off."

Pete was a real character that's for sure, he drove a boss Mustang for many yrs and the battles between Pete and Alan Moffett were legendary stuff to watch. I thought it was a starter motor the con rod took out, I did a similar thing with a Holden 6cy on a run up the freeway into Liverpool

Couldn't be the starter. Once it's done its thing, it doesn't affect the running of the motor... the distributor, on the other hand, is somewhat vital to ongoing power. Knowing Pete, he probably would have tried to continue racing with a conrod flapping through the side of the block and seven bangs rather than 8!
You're probably right about it being the Boss Mustang... but I have vivid memories of everyone trying to get around that white battleship of a Galaxy mostly sideways on the narrow Katoomba track. Who drove it? Leo G? Don't think it was Moffat. Maybe I just merged the memories...

Forgot that V8s & sixes are different in that way. Have to concede.
Sure I've seen some (probably early) V8s with side-mounted distributors... maybe I'm wrong.
Memory ain't what it was.
HAVE seen lots of rods with chrome from A-hole to B-hole - and distributor on the firewall!
(And a blower standing so tall through the bonnet that the driver would need a periscope!)

Can you send me a link with that spot circled Brian At the moment it appears the laws of physics are being ignored, that one that says 2 objects can not occupy the same space at the same point in time Maybe I can put the gas tanks up in the spot you have located
