Thanks folk for all replies. We shall take a few on board once we get into marginal areas again as it is OK in the middle of Brisbane Another irritating thing is all lights, pressure pump, toilet exhaust fan all affect the radio as well -just turn down while this happens. A pain when in the middle of nowhere, playing cards at night, naturally with light on, & can't have radio playing.

You could have a Ford Ranger with ordinary globes and a 5'er with LED's so the tail lights keep flashing [even with resisters] contacted Ford, "told remove LED's and use globes"

Hi Macca
Do you have a portable radio ?
If so position it near the radio & see if it also suffers interence [on the same stations]
IF it does the problem is radiated interference
NOW that can be a real problem

If it does NOT then the problem is line conducted interference
That can be reduced by the use of capacitors & inductor ferrrules ,in the 12V lines.
Come back if you wish to try THAT
Not overly expensive If you wish to do it yourself

This is a reatively cheap & easy thing to try
Go to Jaycar & buy some capacitors part #RE6190 about 50C each

They are polarised electrolytics so make sure you check polarity at all points of connection
Connect Across Pos & NEG as close as possible[ right at the input if poosible] to the various devices giving interference see if that helps

The next step would be to use ferrite suppresssor sleeves Jaycar part # LF 1256 [ about $4 for a pack of 6 ]
Use them by threading the devise POS supply cable through them as many times as possible [as close as possible to the device but before the capacitor [;capacitor closest to device]

I just remembered that some USB cables (maybe others too) come with the ferrites either attached or as an optional extra. So hunt around all your old electrical equipment boxes (computer/camera/etc) for the loose ferrites.

Given up with the digital tv, and wineguard. Dig out the dish, set it up, plug in to the vast box and voila!
Tonight was less than 30sec to get satellite lock, signal quality at 93%. Takes longer to get the dish out, cable out and connected. I lashed out on a fancy signal detector, it provides 12v to the lnb, so i only need the one length of cable
The current wineguard ariel spot would be perfect for more solar.....
No interference from the leds either, i reckon because the signal is not affected by them... I dont have voltage drop issues either, thanks to the LYP lithium batteries
