Just because we have $5m in the bank it's not much if a big suite is taken out against us. I think that the board members were first on the list of a case and this was there to help protect them.
Otherwise no one would stand for the board.

Peter believe CMCA was an incorporated body, which takes away the liability of members and protects them, all an incorporated body needs is public liability insurance for it's members when at official events, their venues and to be incorporated. It's no different to the SSAA, which is an incorporated body, has 180000 members and 400 clubs, but not a corporation.

Our gun club is small and we are an associate member club, which covers us at our own range, when we travel and shoot anywhere round Aus. Each individual branch of SSAA is their own entity and not subject to head office control as with a corporations, direction etc is controlled by the members and their clubs, not a company board. When you are a company, members have no rights whatsoever, except at annual meetings and they don't even have any say in those. I'm a club person, not a company hack, already have my own company and know the reality.

However I have concern that as lowly caravanners, the agenda fought for may not be in our interests... and hence we will probably not become members.

I am not sure why the voting exclusion continues...

Cheers,
Steve
Hi Steve why not have a look at the ACC, link below:

dream4red wrote: Sun Jul 02, 2017 10:43 pm Steve, that is where I come from too. When we first bought a caravan, we joined. We hoped to find some fellowship and kindred spirits, what we did find was that as caravanners we were second class citizens. A lot of that has changed, but we came to the realisation that it is basically a motor home group and we don't really have a motor home. We joined a jayco owners group and go out with them regularly and as such the members all consider the group to be our second family. I really liked the annual printed booklet of all the suitable places to stop, it no longer is printed. I no longer need to be a member to access wikicamps (it's on my phone now). So basically the club is not for us caravanners. That is their prerogative and I save $40 per year.
Hi Deborah the alienation experience you speak of with the CMCA is unfortunate but by no means unique to you. It is good to read that you needs have been met via the Jayco Owners Group. In Australia there are over 100 clubs of varying membership numbers for caravan owners. Some even accept us lowly campervan owners as well. It might be worth a look at the ACC link that I posted for Steve.

Friends of our's also shared your CMCA experience but they are Motorhome owners. Out of frustration they joined the Sydney Caravan Club and he is now a Director of the NACC, Link below

I think it's important to realize that regardless of what you are talking about, not all sizes fit everyone.
Look at coffee for instance? I've had a coffee that some rave about but it nearly made me perk.
That's life!
I find it's easier to just move on & enjoy life rather than get stuck in a rut trying to change things around you.
There are still a lot who DO like the CMCA and what it provides for them.
Suits them but might not suit others.
Last time I looked it was still a free country! (just anyway!)
Might be time to just have fun and enjoy what's left of our lives? lol
;) 8-)

These are who we hang out with sometimes and have been thinking of joining "The apple islanders" branch, some nice people we've met a few times around Tas. As Bruce says, horses for courses and what suits some may not suit others, it's what makes the world go round and they are for motorhomes, which we prefer being around.

We have been members of the CMCA for about 15 years, originally joined to insure our Coaster with Ken Tame back then many would not insure converted buses.
The CMCA have State Reps working constantly to improve travel conditions for members as well as other RV owners, installing dump points, incouraging towns to become RV friendly, lobbing government, the list is endless.
We have never been to a rally, they are not our thing but have many friends that we have met thru being a CMCA member.
I also miss the old CMCA forum but sometimes laugh because it was the old guard that closed it down😂😂😂😂
$44 a year is not much to contribute towards supporting a club or company whatever with so many volunteers working to improve RV travel for everyone & you do get to use the member only benefits.
Guess I wouldn't be a member here if it wasn't for CMCA forum.😀😀

We are a bit like Shirley members for 16 years. Without the CMCA how many fewer dump points would there be across Australia for the small amount of $44-00 a year its great to have the dump points. I am not aware of any other RV group that provides that sort of assistance to all RV travellers They also do a lot of lobbying for the RV fraternity across Australia. We went to one rally not really our scene however have met lots of nice people who are members. I also agree with what Bruce said.

That you very much. We are still at the crossroads of choice.
