Re: Good morning daily
I'm now 87 years old, having experienced another birthday, and I'm still living in WA, single (gave up looking), white hair, no teeth, no money, no worries.
I plan to have another birthday next year.

Re: Good morning daily
Thank you for sharing that Keith, certainly made me think about just how much change I've seen and maybe been a part of, just never really looked at it that way.
Then the "what was old is now new again" kicks in, listening to records and reel to reel tapes, electric vehicles, even engines that run on water or compressed gas of some type or another ... it's all been done before, just waiting for the mega efficient steam engine to appear, the efficient turbine has been around for quite a while now https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallawarra_Power_Station at 60% heat energy efficiency, now to get to the 80% plus efficiency, and maybe that internal combustion engine that runs at better than 50% efficiency and runs of many different fuels .... but I doubt we will ever see that one now ......

Re: Good morning daily
Certainly an interesting post by Keith, have thought about the changes we've experienced in life many times and how we've adapted and learnt. Most from that era also have gathered many skills, most disappearing in the throw away societies we now have and they will probably not return.
Terry, the diesel engine runs on a variety of fuels, from heavy fuel oils to seed oils of many descriptions and there's no way the world can transition to full electrical in the next 50 years because of our reliance on Ice vehicles, but we can reduce the negative effects they have by transitioning to seed soils, especially in Aus. This would reduce harmful vehicle emissions by around 85% and seed oils can replace plastics as can hemp, both would drive the country to a sustainable stable economy and both products are extremely cost effective give long term farmer security and are all environmentally friendly. Sadly we have a political system which is controlled by the corporate world and the political parties are beholden to corporations for support and donations to drive their agenda's, so nothing will change in the foreseeable future.
I feel really sorry for the coming generations, we may have experienced some amazing rapid changes, but in the reality many of those changes may have doomed the next generations and there's nothing we can do to reverse the direction humanity is taking.
I had an experience during the last week which was not wanted, but made me realise I'm getting older. Last Wednesday woke up around 0030 in extreme pain, so bad had never experienced anything like it and thought it may go away, but after just a few minutes decide to ring an ambulance because it was becoming unbearable. Fourty five minutes later the ambulance arrived with a supposed paramedic, who didn't have a clue but decided to take me to hospital, an hour and three quarters drive in a old ambulance which extenuated every bump so injected me with fentanyl a number of times.
Got to the hospital and they gave me more fentanyl, which did nothing, after a scan they inserted a catheter and instant relief. So came home with a catheter and diagnosis of extremely enlarged prostate, waited 2hrs for a taxi to arrive which was provided by DVA and cost them $243 to get me home one way. The hospital doctor had contacted a surgeon friend who said he could do a procedure on the prostate Monday in a private hospital, which is the benefit of a gold card and drove to Hobart early Monday morning and after a 2.5hr procedure it was done.
Spent 3 nights there whilst things settled down and they could take out the huge catheter. Bought my own food with me and took nothing for pain which really surprised them and they couldn't figure it out. Didn't have the heart to tell them was self medicating with a small piece of cannabis biscuits twice a day and that's the best pain killer in the world, plus is gives you an appetite and really relaxes you. So lived on lots of plums, nectarines, peaches, bread, avocado, cherry tomatoes and some dried fruit, even took my own portable water filter. Got a call from the hospital yesterday from their dietician asking about my diet and if I would be interested in helping them develop a real vegan allergies diet system, the vegan food they offered wouldn't feed to my worst enemy and no different with the normal meals they provided, crap.
Got released Thursday morning and had to convince the surgeon I could safely drive home, he kept saying what about the pain factor, just smiled and said have no pain since the procedure and won't have as my body settles down. My neighbour looked after my dogs and they were sure glad to see me, they haven't moved from my side since being home. My neighbour is cooking for me and she is a real European chef who cooks the most amazing vegan dishes one could wish for, going to put her in touch with the hospital dietician, she knows it all, especially getting the right balance of essentials.
Try this one for a healthy treat, get a handful of unsalted peanuts, 2-3 bananas, some natural dried sultanas as they have no oil on them, a couple of dates. Put peanuts with small amount of water in blender, add bananas, sultanas, dates, blend put into small bowls and into the freezer. You can also add some unsalted cashews which make it even more creamier, next day you have a lovely healthy tasty frozen smoothie. You can drink it straight away if you like, but frozen it has a very different taste, almost chocolate and the age of the bananas determines the sweetness. I make one blender full and that gives me 5-6 days to have during the heat of the day, it's cheap, very nutritious and good for you. Friend tried making it with salted nuts and normal oily sultanas, said it was horrible, now makes it this way and their kids love it.
Things I learnt from this experience, never think because you are fit and healthy that nothing will happen health wise. Always do your research so you know exactly what they will do to your body, why and what drugs you may be given. That way had confidence it was worth having done and how to avoid drugs and things I'm allergic to. My father died from prostate cancer, as did his father and probably his father so it runs in the family. Because of that my youngest brother has had his bladder removed as the prostate had grown into his bladder and was killing it yet still eats a junk diet and my younger brother died from it, round the same age as our dad.
Thought I'd beaten it because of my diet and lifestyle, but it was just lurking and when I started really getting into heavy weights and fitness, which greatly increased testosterone production in my body, it took off, crushing the way out of the bladder in a matter of a couple of months, because of the amount of weights was lifting daily. Between the incident and procedure, researched my condition and for the first time learnt the worst thing for an enlarged or cancerous prostate is testosterone, which is like a growth hormone for the prostate and if you don't use your prostate, then it enlarges and I haven't used mine for over a decade. The normal diet of animal products is one of the reasons for the high incidence of enlarged and cancerous prostates in men according to the medical and scientific research, yet they don't advocate as men get older with this problem they reduce the intake of testosterone producing foods. But getting into heavy weights at this age, has it's problems if your life is not well rounded off

That's my rave for the week, will go back to the couch and rest the body so can take the dogs for their first walk for almost 2 weeks. Have lovely day and stay well.

Re: Good morning daily
The only way any biofuel will avoid a knock on effect to food security, is finding a plant that can grow in very poor soil and handle salt water. Ethanol and palm oil or palm seed oil biodiesel is just using a food product.
The ethanol from the remains of the wheat after all the good stuff has been removed to sell at a better price than the wheat was worth, but none of it is food, maybe some of it is a food additive, but the majority is used in non food related industries. At least it is a use for an otherwise waste product.
Much like biofuel made from used deep fryer oil, a good use for a waste product, but there will never be enough to meet the diesel fuel requirements, so palm oil and palm seed oil makes up a large percentage used by the fuel industry to make low sulphur diesel viable as a fuel .... if straight low sulphur diesel is used, the affect is much like using kero, it is a flammable abrasive, the palm oil biodiesel adds the lubricant.
The catch then is the particulate matter in the exhaust, it either needs to be filtered out or combined with urea as it leaves the engine and still hot ... this makes the particulates larger and heavier and they fall out of the air .... they aren't organic or harmless, they just don't add to the poor air quality .... The combination with nitrous oxide particles (NOx) and the ammonia released from the urea when heated by the exhaust, then needs to be treated by a catalyst to break it down to carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapour .... but the NOx is only produced by overheating the combustion cycle, the same problem petrol engines have ... why not develop a better combustion process/fuel mix, to eliminate the NOx in the first place ..... like adding LPG to the mix or even better, methane (natural gas) as the fuel instead of diesel/biodiesel.
Then there comes the next problem, the urea supply. The major use for urea was to add nitrogen to the soil when planting a crop, stock feed and cosmetics but now it is required for heavy diesels and sold as the trade name AdBlue .... a very clever marketing campaign designed to make p*ss a saleable product.
This has seen large quantities of methane (natural gas) used to synthetically produce urea in an energy intense multi step process, with more than a few nasty byproducts being part of the process ..... Cleaner diesel by moving the energy intense parts and emissions to other processes that you don't see mentioned at the "AdBlue" pump ... pollution reduction using smoke and mirrors .....
There isn't an easy fix, the internal combustion engine is a flawed design, energy wasteful and dirty emissions power plant ... time to move on .....

Re: Good morning daily
Good afternoon, 20c been overcast & raining on & off all day, doesn’t look like clearing anytime soon.
The 2 trees overhanging our house came down on Thursday with the aid of a huge crane, we missed all the activity as we were at medical appointments, so good not to have the worry of them dropping a branch or coming down on our house, so much more light into our house too.
. Today the loppers arrived & 2 more on the waterfront were removed, certainly professionals at their job, one to go the other side of their house maybe tomorrow.
We have certainly lived thru interesting times with so much improvement & advancement, I use to be a computer operator putting all the punched cards thru the computer & producing statements for all of Australia for AEI, also run their payroll producing payslips & envelopes for the pay office to fill
also worked for Malleys as a computer operator.
Hope your recovery stays on track native pepper, always enjoy reading your interesting posts.
Trust all the others with health issues are getting some relief or getting good care, age problems for sure.

Re: Good morning daily
Terry. the modern ice vehicles which are computer controlled, are designed to improve profit margins and take away the ability of the local garage to fix them and they still produce the same amount of toxic gases, just disguised behind technology. I'm 100% behind electrification of all transport, but with billions of ice vehicles on the roads and more being produced daily compared to the meager number of EV's, it's a losing battle and there's no one pushing the most logical solution to the problem, current vehicle conversions to EV. We are already seeing the beginning effects of climate change, add the still growing human population and the capitalistic profit growth economy and there's not a hope in hell of turning things around before nature probably wipes out many of our societies.
There's already a seed which produces around 50% oil which has no food value and grows in just about any soil and you see it along the road sides throughout the country, wild radish. It's an excellent substitute for fossil fuels, plastics and completely environmentally friendly requires very little processing before going straight into the fuel tanks, an excellent replacement for heavy fuel oils and diesels. Addblue is a joke designed to take more money from users and has no benefit whatsoever to the environment or improved fuel use, just another con job by the corporate moguls.

A wet good morning.
We had 70mm overnight and still raining
Bacon and eggs are now but a memory
Don't think I will be doing much today, I don't reckon the rain is going to stop any time soon.
Keep safe...and dry.
Bernie.

Re: Good morning daily
I was a mechanic in a previous life NP, most of my good paying work was sorting computer related issues for other workshops, including the two local Ford dealerships, the Holden dealership and the Mazda Dealership. Nissan didn't have a lot of computer problems back then, and the local Honda dealer service manager had a real complex about admitting they couldn't fix their customers problems, so the customers themselves would eventually bring their problem cars for me to sort.
You'd be surprised just how many "computer" related issues were actually mechanical or electrical problems.
Anyway, morning all, looks like it will be yet another warm to hot day today, hope to get the motorhome electrics finished today, if I've at least come to the end of fitting stuff only to have to remove it again the fix the problem that needed to be sorted first .... or I needed more room to install that "one more thing" that I figured over night needed to be there

Re: Good morning daily
Good morning everyone. It looks like it might be a reasonable sort of day for us today. The rain we had seems to have pushed the humidity down to an acceptable level.
Finished trimming some of the shrubbery and mowed the lawn. It's green waste bin day today and it's full as a goog.
We are going to lunch with some old friends today, that will take up a few hours or more. Don't have too much planned other than that.
Have a top day everybody, safe travels.
