Who said anything about a different political country, there's a 200klm geographical reality that sets Tas apart for Aus called Bass Strait, it happens to separate two islands and there's historical geological facts which separate the two islands, going back millions of years. Tasmania is part of the Australian commonwealth, an ideological and political illusion, not part of the Australian continent. If you live on Bruny, King or Flinders island, to locals the mainland is Tas, not Aus and to many Tasmanians the big island above us is a separate entity, which is a historical and geographical fact.

Many Tasmanians state they are going to Aus for a holiday, shopping or watch the footy or to a certain state, it's a common expression especially coming from those who have long ancestral ties here. Until a couple of hundred years ago and for many thousands of years, there was no contact between the two islands and Tas is treated very differently to other states by the commonwealth, even to the point where we are left off maps and left out of many other things and classed as irrelevant.

If you were to ask many Tasmanians if they would like to be independent from Aus they would answer yes, but we all know the reality of that situation simply because we have the bizarre situation of the deranged ancient political system and those running it, who couldn't run a deserted dunny in the middle of the desert but are kept in power by corporate world donations. Plus the undeniable fact who the hell would you get to run Aus or Tas, when just about all those just happen to be overeducated drop kicks who don't have a clue about life, just spent their life in school rooms or offices and have no idea about real life or what makes it work. Along with their Insane ideological beliefs far removed from the reality of the world.

There's a big difference between how real Tasmanians talk to each other and how they talk to people from Aus, or recent blow ins who think they know better and see us as dumb second class citizens. But this island is pretty self sufficient in many ways and if we had decent politicians, that would be easily seen and we could could contribute much more to the commonwealth than presently. You can buy fresh produce around Tas all year round, not old stuff trucked hundreds if not thousands of Klms from heavily polluted farms. Most growers here don't use chemicals and we have a reputation for having great fresh wholesome food. But those stuck with just coles, woolworths and multinational rip off merchants, don't get that opportunity of having a big variety of really good food available all year round.

We spend over a billion dollars a year importing diesel fuels, when we could be providing seed oil fuels which would drive our farming system and keep a hell of a lot of money here, whilst we transitioning away from fossil fuels. As well as provide lubricants, plastics and many other commodities without the associated pollution and waste off fossil fuels. We are also self sufficient in electrical energy, it's just that the fools send a lot of it to Aus thinking they are making a profit, when the economic facts reveal the opposite.

Yesterday turned out to be nice and calm with just a couple of showers, so went for a bike ride after the local Market. Today about to leave for a surf at the neck and then have to do come slashing if the paddocks have dried out enough, but the bottom paddocks will take at least week to dry out. Then do some work on one of the shed roofs which holds the 1000lt cubbies of filtered oil and suffered during the last bout of windy weather. So a full day ahead, which is much better than sitting round watching the rain and wind increase the work load.

Have a lovely day everyone and hope the ailing are feeling better about the road ahead. :)

Good morning everyone, from cool but sunny Mulwala.
It's bacon and egg day again, so enjoy, if you indulge.
Didn't really achieve much yesty, it turned out to be rather blowy and cool. Nice in the sun if you could get out of the wind.
I'm cooking roast beef for lunch today, so no other plans.
Enjoy your travels, all those out and about. Have a top day.
Cheers

from a warm climate to freezing in the winter to boiling in the summer.
I know from my visits and past explorations in the area it can be below zero at night and then above 30 during the day.
Thank gawd I'm in Mandurah where the climate is more temperate.
At the moment I'm suffering the humidity of the Indonesia area but I know it's not permanent

30 during the day ... a balmy spring day for Mannum, try sub zero mornings in winter to 50*C in mid summer, still love the place, just stay inside under the air con when the real hot days hit, you can feel it burning the flesh off you through ya shirt if you get out in the sun on those days .....

T1 Terry
I did several years of working in those temperatures, crack the ice off the fuel drums at 6.00 in the morning and then have your tools in a bucket of water because they're too hot to pick up without leaving your flesh on them, but the machine you're repairing is/was costing $25000 a day standing there without any production, so get it repaired and then relax, dreading the next breakdown
Which you knew was going to happen because up to 20 machines with ancillary equipment don't run forever without some numpty breaking something.
But I got to see many places a tourist wouldn't even consider, from the desert to the Kimberlies to the one-day visit to King Island to replace a gearbox in a drilling machine.

NP, spent close on 3 yrs working with a lot Tasmanians that considered themselves "true Tasmanians" because they had family dating back to the first colonists, at a minimum, their great grandparents were born and raised in the same area as they live now, along with the whole family line .... to them, you lose your Tasmanian heritage if you move away from the area you were born, even if it was still within the state, if you lived on the mainland at any stage in your life, you were treated as a blow in from the south island because you thought differently to them when you returned.

The pub crowd in Queenstown had a local lad they considered a "gadabout" because he'd been to "'obart once or twice" and had a head full of silly ideas about how the town should be run like it was in other Tasmanian cities

Those that think they are the "true breed" might have a "shack" at their favourite holiday spot ..... if two generation hadn't lived in it before, it wasn't a house yet ..... but that wasn't considered moving out of the area ...... the farmer on the property at Kempton actually lived in Clarmont and the wife insisted they travel back to Clarmont as often as possible to save their social standing in the community ...... that is how "set in their ways" the "white" Tasmanians feel about things .... so suggesting they were not part of Australia were fighting words is you said them intentionally ........

Morning everyone.
Which way are you heading Helen?

We had a sorta slowish day, done a little bit of mowing in her small garden area... with the push mower.
I have the second of the raised beds half full...

You still having problems sleeping Shirley...
Carol went into the local hospital a few days ago... she had vertigo that wouldn't go away... doctor wants her to go have her hearing checked to see if that's the problem...
That's not for about three weeks from Thursday... they are fully booked out...
Might be time I traded her in for a new working model 😁😁😁

Now to see if my spacers for the aircon arrives in the mail as tracking sez 😡😡

I really need to move the motorhome from where it is now incase Nigel is correct...even tho we live elsewhere 😉 the ground under it gets a bit saturated in heavy rain. My daughter's little van is in the motorhomes spot under the shade shed.
Keep safe everyone.
Bernie.

Terry, 40 years ago Tas was a very different place, very few travelled off the island as we had a crap ferry service which took around 24hrs and not a lot of passengers, air fares and services were also crap. Travelled on all the ferries since the late 1960's and the POT was certainly an experience not many enjoyed.

Today the ferry takes 10-12hrs, sometimes 2 ferries a day both ways and fares are still expensive, but lots of Tasmanians travel to Aus for holidays and shopping, you can fly to Aus for less than $100 and there's many flights a day. Loads of young Tasmanians move to Aus for work and study and we get a lot moving here thinking its all going to be roses for them, more than half that do move here go back after a year or so because they can't handle the lifestyle and culture which is rather different to maniac land and the frenzy most live in there.

I'm heading over next month to spend a couple of weeks with friends in far Sth coast of NSW and play some music with them, will be nice to do a gig or 2 after so long. But can't handle it now for more than a few weeks, luckily they live in the bush and only have to handle the insanity when doing the gigs, but they are always enjoyable and love seeing people enjoy themselves. Might even meet a crazy old lady to spend some time with, taking my ski and hope to catch a few waves in warmer waters.

Pretty windy here this morning again, so heading to eagle hawk neck to check the waves out as the winds will be off shore there and hopefully not to strong. The surf sites say it should be around 1m which is a nice enjoyable size and he dogs will enjoy charging along the beach and playing in the water.

Have a lovely day and how your winnie continues on Terry.

Good morning everyone. Its another beautiful sunny morning here are Mulwala. Still a bit cool, but no wind.
Done a bit of cooking and watched a game of country footy, that was me for the day.
Bernie, I hope Carol can get the vertigo sorted, it's never much fun.
NP, you are right about the transport options 40 years ago. We used to fly over from Melbourne to Devonport in the old Fokker Frienship. If the curtain to the cockpit was open, you could stand up the front and look out the windscreen, and yack to the pilot sometimes. At the speedway, someone would always have a list of the latest Irish or Polish jokes and would read them out over the PA. They would always use the term mainlander instead of Polish/ Irish, much to the delight of the parochial crowd. Can't do any of that anymore. We had so much fun back then.
Safe travels everybody, get well soon all the sickies.
Cheers
David
