Shirley wrote: Sun May 12, 2019 7:11 am Ok Ray, guess if the 1hr a month gardener is Federally funded it would be available Australia wide, never heard of it around this area, many who qualify get financial help with lawn mowing.
Fed Govt funds the Local Govt to run the scheme.
Have to have either a Pension Card or Health Card to qualify.
I think the rigmarole also involves a Dr somewhere... gotta prove you need the help.
I do because of spinal damage from the cancer.

"tanks" here---
I can receive the same 1 hour lawn mowing once a month, but not gardening, and it costs me a "contribution" of $30.00. The rest of the account is paid by the Feds.
The going rate for lawn mowing a standard yard (850sq m) is around $90.00 due to this being a union/mining town. It takes a contractor with 3 men to mow an average lawn---1 man to drive the ride-on mower, 1 man to operate the whipper-snipper, and 1 man to run the leaf blower when the other 2 have done their task. DEMARKATION MATTER, and all done up with OH&S rigout.

I prefer to mow my own grass and it is a bit of exercise for me. Sometimes it can take me several days to mow all of the lawn, just doing a bit at a time but I enjoy doing it. I have a self propelled petrol mower so all I have to do is walk behind the thing and guide it to where I want mowed. EASY.
NO Hi-Vis jacket, NO EarProtection, NO SafetyGoggles, NO SafetyHat, NO DustRespiratorMask.----just ME in my nakedness and MAJOR following behind thinking it is a good game.

" Those pre-dug holes can save a lot of work. "

Ikea have them. They just need assembly.

Also, you can buy them direct out of China. There is a hole-saler on Aliexpress..... the bad part is; they ship by size and not weight.

Didn't they employ a fourth bloke whose job is to lean on a shovel? :P

Tanks,
We still have to pay a nominal fee. In the Indigo Shire, it's $15.40. For that, we get an hour of whatever needs doing: pruning, tree/dead plant removal, mowing, chainsawing firewood, hole digging & gutter cleaning have been on our list.
Next month we have a large plant in a very large cement pot which needs relocating...
Good thing Will is young and strong................... :P
We do have a trolley which will help. And a ride-on mower with a tow-hook. ;)

Marriage Thoughts

Every man needs five wives:
-- a movie sweetheart
-- an English valet
-- a hotel chef
-- an attentive audience, and
-- a trained nurse.

Every woman needs five husbands:
-- an intellectual companion
-- a muscular workman
-- a financial genius
-- a romantic playboy, and
-- a practical plumber.

You missed electrician and mind reader. I'm guessing the intelligent companion covers the "submissive but not obviously so" and "knows when they have argued enough before it turns into a new argument" The being around on call without getting under foot once retired is a whole different set of learning.
A quote from someone on another forum but can't remember the name
"I married him for better or for worse, but not for lunch, I don't remember that being part of the agreement" :?

Sometimes the grass will appear much greener on the other side - probably because it's been fertilized with bullshit.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm a reasonably intelligent person who does moderately stupid things on a regular basis.

Beautiful young people are an accident of nature, whereas beautiful old people are simply works of art - aren't we?

As I've got older I thought I was starting to get lazy - but it now seems I am merely being more energy efficient.

... and...

I finally figured out what I want to be when I get older ..... younger!
