When I was a youngster, the boys only annual (remember those) told me by 2026 I'd have a flying car, a domestic robot, holidays on Mars, could be living on the moon and there would be world peace

It's turned 2026 and I have:

An electric car that goes well, but flying might be an exaggeration

I could by a robot vacuum I guess

Maybe a Mars bar because it's the holiday so I might be extravagant

Looking out the door, I may as well be living on the moon

Reading the headlines, the world is going to pieces

The only real surprise is, I'm still alive .... remember laughing and saying "As if I'll still be alive in 2026"

I thought I was having a dream or nightmare this arvo. Was in Birdwood and I saw in the distance a Winnie same as Terry's and it was swerving down the street. That sight got us to shuffle faster across the main street. Turns out it wasn't him at all, the driver had no hair.

The Winnie is still dangling the Dunlops, wheels off the ground and sitting on its levelling legs.

Took the bent stairs off today, allowed a couple of hrs to mount the new steps to the original "Kwikee" step base ..... yeah, nah, ended up having to cut all the arms and locating welds from the rod that runs one side to the other, then the angle brackets that hold the bearings for the rod, so I could get the rod out ..... it was 7pm by the time I got to that stage ..... tomorrow ....... that first step out the door is a big one at the moment

T1, I thought you managed to locate another set of Kwikee steps, and it was like for like changeover. Sounds like a major re-engineering now. Bugger.

Dave, don't you remember that Terry likes to make things as difficult as he possibly can?

Couldn't locate an actual Kwikee 3 step (sounds like an R rated dance) and I could make one using a step from the original set and fabricating the thing.
I thought I could adapt this manual 3 step using the 2 step quicky mechanicals (moving from R rated to X rated) and I still believe I can, but the Kwikee lever action construction method was never designed to be de-constructed easily .... I can confirm they achieved their goal

The difference between a parts installer and a fitter with the mind and experience of a mechanic.
the first relies on $$, the second on skill, knowledge and the mind to design an alternative to just spending mega $$ for someone else to do something you can do with a bit of effort .....

Thanks kinda funny you say that Terry. The guy that I'm doing a bit of switchboard building for, said to me the other week, I like getting you old guys in, cos you can make stuff.'
I think that was a compliment.
I assumed that he meant that most of the younger guys only know how to bolt stuff together. And he's kinda hoping that us old guys can teach them. But some young guys already know everything, and you ust can't tell them.

It's much the same in the butcher industry, they don't know how to brake down a beast... they get their training in Wollies or Cole's it and all comes in box's.
My mate normally only hired older cutter's. Those that were taught properly.
