I've said this on a few other places.

Please make sure they certify that the electronics is ok. The the electronic sensors are faulty, it could be causing the computer to squirt more fuel. aka over fuel.

If they don't check the electronics, and a sensor is faulty, or the computer is faulty, they'll be doing another rebuild again.

Also, ask them to put it on a dyno and confirm the air/fuel ratio is ok.

Question for the repairers, what readings are stored in the computer? If it was over fueling so much to cause an engine faulire, the codes in the computer must have been going beserk.
I think the computer, sensor and wiring side of things was ruled out when the injector change from cyl 2 to cyl 1 resulted in the problem moving with it, but certainly no harm in requesting all this to be double checked and the fault codes down loaded from the computer. I doubt the computers were sufficiently sophisticated to do independent cyl injection back then, it is a rare system that can do it now and mostly only high performance petrol or LPG liquid injection engine management

Fair point, Terry, about it following the injector.

You'd still think the computer would capture a bad air fuel ratio on the o2 sensor in the exhaust.

"tanks" here---
The wire loom and the computer thingo all check out ok. It has been decided that it is the injector fault, possibly more than one injector which is being investigated.
I now have AIMTECH doing the investigation and I look forward to speedy results.
Aimtech Consultants and Skippers Trucks stripped the engine down on Friday 13th Nov, and will examine all 4 cylinders and pistons etc. When this is completed and their report is presented it will be decided who pays for the repairs to the engine and pays for the previous damages.

I hope the end to 'the problem' is in sight Keith and you get the solution you deserve.

I hope you still have the Sprinter for your use in the meanwhile.

Tanks I would be hanging out for a new, as in brand new motor. They can ship it out quickly enough these days. Its not right you have yet another reco motor and probably a lot less life time on the thing. I would be heading for consumer affairs here or whatever they are called these days. You have put up with enough shit from this/these mobs.

I can't see that there is a lot less life in a rebuilt diesel engine with new cylinder liners and injectors etc :? .

Yes, good point Craig if it's done by a good 'engine shop'. I bet all the engines in the V8 competition aren't 'off the shelf' !!!

The expert bloke informs me that the rebuild will be as good as a new engine. Your postings remind me to insist on a written warranty to cover both time and distance, equal to a new engine warranty, and with National coverage.
