No free RV sites in Esperance townsite

LOCAL tourism park operators say they are relieved the Esperance Shire Council has chosen not to pursue the provision of short term parking for self-contained recreational vehicles (RVs) within the Esperance townsite.

Council voted last month on a proposal for the Goldfields-Esperance area to become the first RV friendly region in Western Australia.

The proposal was put forward by Robert Hicks, chair of the Goldfields-Esperance Tourism Alliance and chief executive of the Goldfields Esperance Develop ment Commission.

Mr Hicks said Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Lenora had already become RV Friendly Towns and suggested a broader regional approach was necessary to enhance this particular tourist market.

One of the criteria for RV Friendly Town status is the provision of short-term parking for RV units within a reasonable distance to the central business district.

Council voted at last month's ordinary meeting to endorse the RV Friendly Region concept.

However, while council said it considered Esperance to be an RV Friendly community, it would not be providing short-term parking within the Esperance townsite.

Seems like they want to be RV Friendly without actually being RV Friendly.

I'm not familiar with Esperance but if the town is a 'decent' size then it's very unlikely to get a free or cheap camping area IN town. On the outskirts or a couple of km's away is acceptable in larger towns. (in my opinion)
Does anyone know if there's a place close by?
