Tornado relief rules ‘grossly unfair’

Post by Kit Kat »

DISASTER relief in NSW was “grossly unfair”, the council officer who oversaw Mulwala’s post-tornado clean-up said yesterday.

Corowa Council environmental services director Bob Parr said the state system had left affected residents without financial assistance.

Mr Parr and other officers and councillors highlighted gaps in the system when they attended a council meeting yesterday.

Mr Parr said under the relief guidelines, a third of businesses or a shire must be impacted for the category that allows for greater assistance to start.

He said only two of the 14 caravan parks across the Corowa and Berrigan shires were affected.

He also said the physical effect on the shires was small comparatively.

“From where we’re standing, this is grossly unfair to the people impacted by this,” Mr Parr said.
