CENCO FRIDGE/FREEZER

Post by Kelvin12 »

G'Day All,

Anyone come across this or had any experience with them. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281083309390 ... 1438.l2649

Little smaller than I wanted and I was actually thinking of a freezer unit, but the Danfos compressor appeals. Its either something like this or a small domestic freezer unit but 240v consumption would be a downer there. Any ideas/suggestions appreciated.

Even thinking of a domestic unit and fitting a Danfos compressor, but costs might outweigh the benefits.

Do what we did, fit the size you want from a very efficient 240V fridge. Less than 1/4 the price so you can also use an efficient inverter to run it. You don't need those expensive heavy 12/24V cables as well.

Interestingly it says, quote "Classification of Climate:T, ST, N, SN" unquote. So are they saying it covers all climates from Tropical, Sub Tropical, Norman and Sub Normal??

You might also be interested in one of these (http://www.techniice.com/car-fridges-1.html?size_l=74) which a camper near us recently had and was very impressed with.

Hi, Wander Yonder,

Thanks for the reply. Yes the rating reads that way doesn't it, covers all bases, climates. If I decide on that unit unit I will ask for clarification.

The Technic look good to. Don't know much about the Domus compressor though ???? I asked for their climate classification as I couldn't find it in the add, guess it would be similar. Will post it here just in case someone else is looking.

Technic can't give a rating other than to say they are an Australian company and their fridges are designed for rugged Australian conditions......

What is your fear of buying a 240vac unit Dirk? They have been tested by independent authorities to meet an Aust standard that realistically reflects Aust conditions, none of the low voltage units can come even close to meeting the standard. Once they have met the standard, there is another standard for measuring how much power they will really use, not some optimistically guessed figure put forward by a marketing wiz kid, a genuine Aust standard tested energy consumption.
Seriously, the new 250ltr fridge freezers use less power including the inverter losses that their low voltage brothers, they are built and tested to work in 43deg c temp, that is part of the Aust stand test, low voltage fridges won't handle that sort of temp without a great deal of modification, the household fridge does it out of the box.
Spend the money you save on buying a fridge that will actually work on good batteries and a good inverter, you have to buy the solar panels no matter which fridge you buy, unless it's a 3 way fridge, then you will gradually buy three times as many panels over the fridges life in the cost of gas refills.
If you can find a household fridge in the size you want that is using hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants (propane and butane mixes) grab it, you won't be disappointed, they use far less energy again, around 10% to 15% less actually.

G'Day Terry,

This isn't the main fridge/freezer, already bought that one ages ago, (following the wrong advice on the long gone forum actually.....) This one is a small capacity additional unit for down in the hold. Two compartment fridge/freezer where I can use one or both compartments as a freezer. Just extending my camping times if the need arises. Would have looked at a 240v freezer is I had room but they are just a bit big for the space allocated. Getting pretty tight down in the hold these days.

No problems at all with a normal house fridge/freezer. Will give the current 12/24/240v unit the flick when it gives up the ghost.

Maybe contact Bob & Bev, bob rebuilds these small freezer/fridge unit and sometimes he has a few for sale. Apparently he had a number of units with him when he came to the Gentle Annie get together but never mentioned it to anyone.

Hi Guys, Had a quick look at them, read some of the specks and it said that Engels have a Danfoss and so do Evacool which now have a Domas comp. Engel have never had a Danfoss.
My Idea is to look in side if it has a SS liner look for some thing else..
Terry you know that I love each and every one of my little fridges they become like family...!!
Big smile..

Well guys/girls, very disappointed in my 52L cenco fridge freezer. Arrived last Tuesday, and the AC/DC adaptor has blown already. Had it at -6 deg inside ute to get my drinks cool for work (I fit Foxtel satellites), as it was the right size/weight for my needs. Would put it on 0 deg overnight to be cool for the next day, then bump it down as dont have leisure battery fitted yet. Try finding a link to cenco warranty dept? Cant find one yet. Getting frustrated. Heading out camping this coming weekend, and have no cenco base in Perth, so no chance of getting it sorted any time soon. Hate it when the missus is able to say 'Told you so, stick to WAECO!'
