Re: 12v or 3way
If you plan to have decent batteries, then 12 or 24v, and theres some good arguments for 240 via inverter.
If you are going to scutz on battery then 3 way, but you will never be sure whether the icecream will stay frozen or the fizz too warm.....

How do we go with the inverter way, we only need a smaller 90 -110lt type ..

Standard fridge, inverter, plug fridge into inverter. Solar to keep battery up. Terry know heaps more about this.

Re: 12v or 3way
There isn't much difference in battery Ah between a 12v model and a 240vac model including the inverter losses in the 250ltr 2 dr class but the smaller fridges are hard to find in 2 dr fridge/freezer style and use about the same amount of power as a 250 ltr 2 dr when it comes to 240vac models. But.... there is a smaller fridge with great star ratings but they only seem to be in NZ, buggered if I can find anyone seling them in Aust. I'll find the brand name in the morning so you can track down a price when you get back home. They say the newer 3 way fridges are better than before but I still believe the level thing is an issue with them, unless they are completely level they stop working, compressor fridges work at angles it's hard to stand up. The other advantage, once you have the solar and batteries the costs stop, you don't need to keep paying for gas bottle refills and they can get rather expensive in some areas. Once you couple a 240v fridge, solar and Li batteries together you never give fridge problems another thought, it's just like the fridge at home but it runs for free.

Re: 12v or 3way
We have 12v never had any problems
Idea
How about a dedicated battery and solar panel for the fridge only = f takes power from b and b is charged by sp

Here it is, GRAM KF130-11 http://reg.energyrating.gov.au/comparat ... 200&page=3hopefully the link will transfer. Buggered if I could find one at any on line sellers in Aust but a few in NZ, let us know the price can you. Here http://www.caravanersforum.com/viewtopi ... 48#p459847is the comparison post I made on the CF using this fridge against a Waeco of similar size, it’s the unit that's in the Mazda we bought from Brian actually.

Re: 12v or 3way
I have a 130 litre Vitrifrigo 12 volt fridge in my Motorhome and the compliance plate shows 42 watts of energy required. The Battery monitor shows it pulls around 4 amps and cycles 30/50% of the time depending on settings. It has 5 settings and I usually run it on 3. The freezer keeps everything well frozen and the fridge part also keeps food as cold as is required. It is an Italian brand, not very tall but quite wide and deep.

Re: 12v or 3way
Hi Bob and welcome to the forum. Any idea how much your Vitrifrigo cost when you bought it and have you had to do any mods so it performs well in the high heat areas? Some have installed internal fans that only run when the compressor runs, others have theirs running full time. The Waeco we inherited with the Mazda doesn't have any mods as yet but we haven't really tried it out in hot weather yet.
