First Nullarbor crossing completed ! Along the way I went into Cactus Beach, south of Penong, and what a beautiful place that is! I also stopped at the Head of the Bight and a couple of scenic outlooks along the way. A good crossing in that nothing went wrong, just a few days of long steady drives. As one of the photos show, there isn't a lot to look at out there, but then that's its main attraction.

At Norseman I checked at the Information Centre and looked at some features around the town the Lake is certainly different. I'm currently near Kalgoorlie and will go in tomorrow to see the sights there. I then plan to head east to Coolgardie, then to Wave Rock, and the Tourist Drive back to Norseman again to finish sightseeing there.

Good one Anton, how was the weather and the wind direction with your crossing? you surely put the pedal to the metal, we took over a week to get across, did you see any living animals?

What was the road to Catus Beack like . I went there a few years ago and it was probable the worst corrogated road I have ever travelled.

Winds were very light and blowing NW, so they helped a bit. I didn't travel that fast - around 90Km/hr but the days were a bit longer than normal. The only animals I saw were dead and covered in ravens & eagles - the ravens at least are smart enough to keep out of your way but eagles wait until you are nearly on them and then fly in front of you! A few quick brakings saved as many eagles. I'd allowed more time however on the one hand I didn't find that much of interest but the main fact is that once I set off toward a goal I'm reluctant to be sidetracked.

And Yes! The road into Cactus Beach is rough in places but not quite as bad as the 'normal' gravel road in SA National Parks!

Having covered a bit of ground over the last few days, I'll stay here for a few days at Lake Douglas (Camps6 #314), about 10Km from Kalgoorlie.

You saw more wildlife than we did then, didn't see a thing. We also stayed at Lake Douglas, had a good chat to one of the rangers about the poor dogs in some of the communities while I gave our 3 well looked after 4 paws a nice shampoo and hair cut. If you are there for a few days try to get further back away from the water as the locals sometimes make a lot of noise throughout the night on the weekends. Also have been told to do a guided tour of one of the brothels, interesting to say the least.. Enjoy your travels.

If you can swing a guided tour into the superpit, it is recommended. Apparently they are so far down they have to pump out the water continuously now. All around the entry and exit roads you can see the old mine shafts disappear into the side of the walls, some are a very long way down. i have been told the climate at the bottom of the pit is quite different to that on the surface, warmer at night and cooler during the day but much higher humidity.

Langtrees was the Brothel tour we did in 2010 & it was really money worth spent-only $25 each. Was very interesting to find out all the rules & regulations which have to be adhered to, by "working girls" as well as admin staff. The different names given to the "rooms" & the way they are decorated- all different.
