Re: Port Augusta, caravan repairers ?
Peter there is a pretty good chap that I've heard about in Port Wakefield. Getting urgent service could be a problem though.
Not sure about Port Augusta.
It sure sounds a bit like your outfit was built for sticking to the main bitumen highways to me.
One consolation I guess is that you have been able to still travel.
It always worries me going into isolated areas. The recovery costs can be much more than a rig is worth sometimes.
I know back in the 80's not many breakdowns in semi trailers occurred on the road to WA. Funny how they always burnt to the ground!!!

GO down to Port Wakefield to Aussie By design- great. We had work down there earlier this year & he has an on site caravan park with all amenities.

Re: Port Augusta, caravan repairers ?
We have had major work done by the people at Port Wakefield. We even have one of their humpback Smartvans.
BUT. They take a while. They are not cheap. You can stay with the van while its being worked on. BUT. They charge $20 a night....you are hooked up to water and power though. They would probably be quicker if you stayed with the van.
You need to keep an eye on them. You must check that the work you want done is what has been done and to your satisfaction. Make a list of what you want done, a detailed list.
We doubt we would go back there for repairs etc. they employ cheap labour, mostly philippinos. Actually, they were the best carpenters, but others, like the electrician, were slack.
Cheers
Greg and Dee
Ps make sure you check your bill as I was overcharged just on $1000....we got it back but it was irritating.

Hey a thought! Get in touch with Dot and Geoge. Doing those jobs aren't hard and George and Dot could give you some guidance.
Sorry Dot if I'm dobbing you in! But that's what this forum is all about. If we were nearer, we'd be able to help, as most of those jobs Greg could do himself.
Cheers

Re: Port Augusta, caravan repairers ?
Just goes to show that opinions differ but that is life. We were totally satisfied with their work. We stayed in the van while they worked on the bearings and seals & van on stumps. $20 is still a cheap park with everything! Have to admit that Bruce was doing his usual check on things & noticed that there was not quite enough grease on one bearing. Went back to Ian, he dropped everything, had a word with the guy who had did the work & it was attended to immediately.
Maybe that happened when I had to ask another person parked in there to stop talking to this guy while he was working on our van, and it just happened to be this particular wheel! There are signs asking you not to talk to employees.

Re: Port Augusta, caravan repairers ?
Our van was there for eight weeks. The work wasn't done until the last couple of weeks..we did a house sit so we weren't pushing him. I think you need to be there. We gave them a list, but some things weren't done until the day Greg went to pick it up, when Ian dropped everything and did it himself.
And we had booked it in weeks earlier.
They even told us that we should be ashamed of our electrics, they said the electrics were a mess.
We then pointed out that the electrics hadn't been touched since we bought the van from them...new! And the problem that we were asking them to rectify had existed since the first day we had it. Couldn't take it back as we were then living in it on gregs mums front yard for two years, ...Greg was her carer.
We think they probably take on too much, and existing clients can tend to be taken advantage of a little.
Cheers

I know you were looking for some where closer BUT we know the guy at Roadmaster Carvans in Lonsdale and his name is Larry Wepers (owner) .
