Someone posted a Jaycar wiring diagram of all the components in a 12volt motorhome/caravan set up.

I have a friend on a houseboat that needs a simple diagram.

I can remember seeing it, but on which forum I don't know............

The dominant colour of the diagram was blue.

Here is a picture of his batteries. Photograph is not clear enough to see what charger, regulator, inverter he has got.

God knows where the batteries came from. He bought the houseboat sight unseen and looks like he will have to rewire the whole thing.

The Jaycar diagram was simple to follow but used their components.

the batteries are either 2v lead acid or nicad, most likely 2v lead acid. The solar regulator is a cheap ebay PWM unit that only charges up to 13.8v and stops, they were origially designed for street light/carpark lighting set ups. The trickle mains charger on the shelf beside looks like an Arlec transformer 5 amp unit, the inverter is another chep ebay unit, modified sinewave. The wiring appears to use the birdsnest principle and wiring colour coding does not appear to be part of the methodolodgy either. Not sure what purpose the 2 oil bottles serve in the system
I think you have come up with the sensible solution, start again with slightly better quality components. Might be worth getting the battery cells tested though, they may still be good enough for a home power unit.
If you want a basic system drawn up, tell me what components will be involved and I'll scetch something basic up for you.
Maybe we should move this to it's own thread ;)

Good idea Terry, can you do that and move these couple of threads over to it.

Will your friend be joining the forum when he gets his internet sorted Derek? This could be an interesting thread to show what can be done without a major drain on the bank balance and utilising as much of the equipment already fitted as possible.

Hi Derek

This is the diagram that I was given to use from a profesional motorhome builder.
