One for Terry,
Just saw on chn. 9 news VW are building the last 600 kombi's in their Brazilian plant. Reason fitting air bags and ABS not viable these days to this vehicle. Shame as they were a very popular vehicle in their day. End of an era.

Re: LAST OF THE VW KOMBI'S
The Brazilian built Kombi's were a scary bit of gear anyway. It was like a Frankenstein Kombi at the best of times, body panels and mechanical parts from a whole spread of yrs all combined into one vehicle so each one off the production line was nearly a one off item. There are photos doing the rounds of split window fronts and cargo doors on both sides of bay Kombi's, the last spit window rolled off the lines in '67, bay doors on the right hand side were l/h/d rive vehicles only and finished in the early ‘60s, bay Kombi's came out in '74 to ‘78, these bitsers were build in the late '80 and '90
All the body width's and shapes were different, hell knows how the got all the parts to line up
Hell only knows what mechanicals would be in them

Re: LAST OF THE VW KOMBI'S
Sure would an interesting restoration project when they were all bits and pieces as you said. Sound like some of the vintage cars I restored, nothing the same and different from side to side.....
