Newly Homeless

Post by Swisslulu »

Following the sale of our home, we are now camped at the Lawnton Showgrounds till around the 16th when we plan to head up to Standown Park on the Gympie-Tin Can Bay Road.

This should be a safe haven over the Easter period and perhaps for a week or two following.

Yesterday around 5pm this big rig rolled in to the Showgrounds. It looked like a big family with about 7 kids and a dog plus what appeared to be a mini bus in the trailer. WA plates on the trailer.Image

Wow, an 11mtr bus and a tri axle trailer, that would be getting close to max overall length without road train requirement kicking in wouldn't it? When will you be heading up to supervise your new house build?

Once we get to Standown Park, we will be close enough to drive up in the little diesel i30 (which runs on the smell of an oily rag) when necessary. After Easter we will try for a spot at the Aldershot Scout Camp which is about 14 kms north of Maryborough but if that does not come off we would quite happily stay at Standown as it is a lovely spot.

That's longer than 11m ours is 11m (36 feet) thats a 40footer.
Could be the family that was on TV a while back the kids were sleeping in the bins with access through the floor.

Never tried putting our kids in the bins...
DAMN! Opportunity missed on collection day. :D

:? I reckon if there were 7 children plus parents, a minibus is the minimum you'd need in that trailer!
Surprised it wasn't a SWB Coaster with the seats retained...

One of the 40fter's converted locally had slideouts where the bins were. His near adult kids were going to sleep there and they would have their own access door outside plus an internal crawl through to access the bus interior. By the time he finished the project the kids had women and jobs and didn't want to go

I saw one in progress in Darwin some 15 years back he had raised the floor and the roof and turned it into a half double decker with a bedroom and laundry underneath.

In Port Augusta some years back, we parked next to a Scania tour bus which had been converted.
He retained the 'upstairs' where the passenger seats had been, installing 3 swivel leather lounge chairs for SWMBO & friends to enjoy the scenery as he sat in front of the right-front wheel driving.
The rest of the passenger area had been converted into lounge/kitchen/bathrm/bedrm.
The 'downstairs lounge' at rear had also been retained as a TV room.
Luggage area (with parallel-hinged doors) he had converted into laundry/service area (water tanks/genny/HWS/etc) & workshop complete with workbench & toolracks. It was tall enough to stand up in, although head clearance was about 1cm.
They pulled a trailer almost the size of Girt, and he backed a RAV4 out of it.
I commented that it was an awfully big trailer to house a small 4WD.
He told me there were extra water & fuel tanks in the front of the trailer, and there was a mezzanine floor in it; upstairs housed his ultralight plane  ... as you do!

We have now moved north to Standown Park, on the Gympie to Tin Can Bay road. Lovely peaceful spot. Unpowered sites on the lake side now have water connections installed since our last stay. $18 per night. We will stay till after Easter and perhaps longer.
