Thermal paint

Post by shonky »

Hi, all.

We're about to do a major job on the roof and were wondering which sealants and paints were the best.
See you on the back roads,

I've used It's so Cool on the roof of the Kombi, fibreglass poptop, the roof of big bus, aluminium sheeting, and Mazda has a coat on it. The Mazda one peels off if provoked because the paint underneath is actually coming away, not the thermal coating. It's So Cool used Prolon as the top clear coat and it seems to stick on real good, no signs of it separating from the thermal white coat.
The Kombi's roof coat is over 10 yrs old and still no sign of any problems, I doubt you will find the story the same with the other product, just ask Brad how he went with his Coaster roof ;)

We have some type on the bus (name alludes me right now) but as a matter of interest, today we had a man here to quote on the house roof and they use Dulux Acra-Te. Might be worth a google

Shonky, We have Thermashield on our Coaster. It has been on for about 8 years now and I reckon it works OK. As T1 sort of alluded to, you have to follow the instructions regarding preparation and application or it will come off in sheets. Like most paints if the preparation is poor then the final result is too. If you happen to see a Wanderer mag most of the suppliers advertise in there. If you are doing any sealing on the roof make sure that you use paintable sealant like Sika flex, and do all you resealing before you repaint it.
Cheers

I chose Australian Paints, Barrier Shield. Made in Qld at Beenleigh. good price, have only just done it so cannot comment on longevity, or effectiveness, all the reports are good. Reasonably easy to apply, though a little care is requited to get the first coat even, I slapped the first coat on a bit thick, thinking the next coats would even it out, they didn't, so did not get quite as even a coat as I would have liked.

I used Barrier Shield also and it has been on for 3 years and shows no signs of deteriation, I followed all preparation instructions and where I could I used a roller and got it even, and had enough for nearly 3 coats.

We believe it definitly improved the living conditions in the bus.

Would highly recommend, no affiliation, just a satisfied customer.
