Yesterday I filled with autogas at 55 cents per litre. They also sold refills at $25/8.5kg which equates to $1.40 per litre.
Should it take that long for bottled gas prices to catch up to pump pricing?

Re: LP Gas profiteering
What is in the decanting bottle should be pure propane, mot autogas, so that would make account for a bit of the cost. Then the decanting bottle rented, can't own them, the labour for the trained person to fill the bottle, then the punishment payment for not going to Bunnings and getting it for $22.50. Gas refills have always been a rip off, even at $1 ltr it's only $17 worth of gas.

Re: LP Gas profiteering
The Autogas is exactly the same as the LPG. I asked the tanker driver in Ballarat the other day. He said, we only send one tanker out. He was filling the Decanting bottle after having filled the autogas tank. Given the great distance between distribution outlets in Australia, I doubt they will ever send a separate tanker to do separate fills for the small and widely distributed decanting bottles/tanks.
That said, my point was that the bottled gas was $25 when autogas was $1.20/litre and is still $25 when autogas is 55cents per litre. There should be some comparative drop or else they're profiteering. I paid 55cents for LPG, $1.04 ulp and $1.12 super ulp for genny, and $1.20 for diesel the the other day. Yep, I filled everything up.

I'm not sure it is the same gas. There is a warning label on the pump saying it must not be used for barbecues, but what would I know
I do know that you would have a big problem trying to fit a car autogas pump nozzle onto a bottle and a bottle fill up nozzle onto your car

Re: LP Gas profiteering
You can always tell when someone has been filling their bottles at the auto gas bowser, the flames dies down towards the end of the bottle, then the normally blue cone turns white/yellow and blackens the saucepans. When it's sub zero the remaining liquid butane in the bottle will not boil off the gas causing the pilot light for the fridge or water heater to go out.
In some remote areas they may send the one tanker with pure propane to service all the tanks in an area, but propane is more expensive than butane and does not burn as hot, so the litre per 100k climbs while the engine performance drops yet the fuel is more expensive.
